Documentary: Client#9

So yes, I am behind the 8-ball, but I finally watched Alex Gibney's excellent documentary about Eliot Spitzer last night, Client#9.  I thought it was so well done: brutally honest, and Spitzer (IMO) has a big pair of balls to come out after the fact and admit to, and openly discuss  his actions...not that he could deny them.
To me, it showed how, above all, we Americans cannot tolerate hypocrisy.  He was doing what every guy WE know does: engaging in activities outside his marriage in a way that placed boundaries on them.  That he was so righteous about the questionable activities of the powerful and rich, thus creating so many enemies, brought him down.  Like Martha Stuart, being an asshole is what turned people against him.
The people I felt sorry for are his wife, of course, and the agency and escort who got busted because they serviced him.
So what are the lessons we can learn from here?  Mind your own business and others will mind theirs?  Was there an element of self-sabotage in his knowingly placing himself in such danger?
I'm looking for input from people who have thought more about this than I have.

Ooh, thanks for this recommendation!  I'm a big documentary nerd...saw that on Netflix and the description looked like a snooze, but now I will definitely have to check it out.

Do you like documentaries in general?  Any other documentary nerds up in here?

Holla! :)

For all of the other documentary nerds, I can't help but recommend the Paradise Lost films. Also, I have to give a shout out for Dear Zachary (just prepare to feel emotionally raped). My favorite of all time, though, has to be For The Bible Tells Me So.
