Did TER kill chat?

Every time I try to go to chat I end up on a review search page as well as a listing of the top 10 reviews along with what is on TER.  Take us back to the old TER.  Sojourner, is there a trick to get into chat?

I have to say that I like the newest thread look a whole lot more. Definitely comment if you are happier about the newest tweak, or not happy about it. Feedback gets the site closer to what you'll like best!

This one reminds me of the classic look pre-redesign.

I prefered the last version as you didnt have to look at each thread to see if there were new replies as they'd be at the top...like a forum should work.

I am sure most will prefer this newer look as it's like the old look and people tend to resist change.

I liked the old one better but I am an old fart who can't learn new tricks.

but does it still 'bubble up' the posts with new comments?

will not know on this one, as it is 'on top'...  :/

Change is always tough for me.  First impressions:  It sucks!  maybe it will grow on me.

the feature like the Yahoo and Google message boards, where any response to an existing post takes it to the top. This makes it easy to get to the latest comment quickly.

I know that a some ladies try to push their posts up by misusing this feature, but you got that under control. So in conclusion I really like the new look and features.

Somehow it's harder to navigate than the old html version.

so looks like things are back to 'normal' or the 'old way'... which is a good thing

sometimes.. change really is bad...

I thought you guys had it finally figured out.  Every other message board I've seen these days works by bumping threads with new content to the top.

But now we're back to 2002 style.

Personally I'm not sure what the point of the "bubble up" system was, but my brain was finding it hard to follow.  I find it much easier to select what I read when the main thread is the first item visible.

Thanks guys!

When one posts a reply and clicks the "Back to Forum" button, didn't the Classic take one back to that post? Now, the new version takes one to the top-of-the-page post.

I just edited a post and was given the choice of "Back to Forum" and "Back to Post." Checking to see if the same choice is given when I post this message. If not, it'd be nice to have.

Edit: Yes, indeed, the choice is there.

This is a lot better. It is more like the classic version.
Thank the Sun God that the thread bumping has been eliminated. That made the site horrible to look at and had me going back and forth between classic and beta further straining my eyes.

I still prefer the classic, but this is usable.

Now that we can see all the posts in a thread, and determine which we have already read, the format is much better.

The last version sucked so badly ANYTHING would have been an improvement.  This is actually pretty cool though, Sage

Those posts that were jumping around were confusing the crap out of me. This is much better.

I like the latest tree structure similar to the classic TER, but I also liked how with the new message boards the latest activity always got bumped to the top of the board.  I guess one can't have it both ways.

I like the latest revisions ...sorta a blend of the new with the old.  Threads are much easier to follow with the open tree format and it's easier to find the latest threads, since older threads can no longer be bumped to the top.

The old Board returned you to where you had left off. The new format always takes you back to the top of the page, so you have to search for where you left off. Then you havE to search for where you were.

That's a pain.

I just tried chat for the first time, and was able to connect to the lounge after I updated my browser to accept pop-ups from TER. Give that a try

The actual reason why I liked the 'classic' format was because it allowed me to see more recent ads. Bumps kind of ruined this for us because of the you can only post an ad once a week type thing. The previous 'new' format ended up drowning out the ads, hence why I like the update.

HOWEVER, I do have a suggestion. When clicking on a thread there's a 'tree' and 'flat' view (flat being the equivalent of what most people are used to with modern message boards). Why not have a similar option for each discussion board but just change it to "classic" and "chronological" or something to reflect "listed by first post date" and "listed by last post date". So, we could have the best of both worlds. Click on one, and you're able to freely browse and see which new threads appeared today. Click on the other, and you're able to see which threads had posts up today. Clearly, the code's been written for both now, so why not integrate and give people a choice? default to the 'classic view' but make it obvious for everyone else that the other options is available.

Miss the original but certainly better.

I am very disappointed in how they handled this transition.

Many of us out there are on our smart phones all day and night, with that being said, why isn't the NEW TER smart phone friendly like the old one?

Thank you
JC

Threads like these are important, as they can affect change and bring about differences that everyone will hopefully find beneficial. Thank you all for responding and trying to improve the site through your suggestions and opinions.

The problem I have is on discussion boards. Click on regional boards then trying to click on the drop down options of Other Cities/Washington DC (the bottom 2 options) are challenging to say the least.

My options to click on the bottom 2 cities so they appear on the screen are: reduce my zoom level page or use my scroll bar at he precise point where I can barely see regional boards.

I know my toolbar is not that big. It could be because I use a netbook when traveling.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Or can anyone understand the point I am trying to make? Sh!t I wrote it & I am confused.
