It will reopen soon as a new concept of Levy Restaurants.  I agree that it was very good and had a long and successful run.  I'm sure the new concept will be equally as popular, as Levy palces are very well run.

The Michelin Guide has just announced the new score in Chicago.

This got my brain running: what's your favorite restaurant for a date (civvie or compensated)? Why?

What new restaurant have you been jonesing to try with a date?

having been here only  a handful of times  I loved this steakhouse and  the vibe there  the food and service were perfection! I just love everything about your city so many great choices here

West Loop quiet kept secret.  The food is flawless and the bartenders are on their game.  If you are environmentally conscious, they use local producers and locally grown products.

I've been wanting to check out Smoque and Kuma's Corner. Unfortunately I'm not ever up on the North side.

Smoque is very good, but get there early. Is it worth the effort when there are some equally good (maybe even better) BBQ joints elsewhere, like Uncle John's and Barbara Ann's on the south side, and Honey One on north Western? No disrespect to Smoque, but those other spots are also very good.

Kuma's offers okay burgers, excessive, sometimes silly, toppings and a great atmosphere - young, edgy, lots of tats, but they even treat old farts like me well. Thing is, that hardly makes it worth the wait. If you have to go, it will be one and done, I predict as it is a good place, but one whose popularity is so far beyond its quality. As Yogi once said, no one goes there any more, it's too crowded.

My favorite burger joint these days is Paradise Pup, on River north of O'Hare. Sometimes I find myself with a business meeting near O'Hare, maybe at a hotel at lunch time, that really takes it out of me, burns up a lot of energy. Then I need to stop by PP afterward to recharge with some red meat. It is a damned good system.

I actually showed up at Kuma's one Saturday afternoon.  Could barely get in the door and was told the wait was 3 hours.  No way I would ever wait 3 hours to eat at a restaurant.  I'll attempt it again, but next time I'll show up mid afternoon on a Tuesday.  If there's still an outrageous wait at that time, then I guess I'll have to miss that culinary experience.

I've heard Smoque prepares an incredible brisket, which is mainly why I've wanted to try them.  Thanks for the other BBQ recommendations.  I'll have to eventually check them out as well.

Honestly. The guide is in disrepute in France, the director fired, recriminations flying. The world of the blog and internet has passed it by. The big rumor early this year was whether or not Michelin was going to shut down or sell off the guide, but it seems that will not happen.

Best food depends, and you know I have opinions on this, my dear. Katsu for sushi, Vie or Perennial Virant for wonderful food, Spiaggia for an Italian orgy (of food, of course) in a beautiful place. If you want to splurge. But the great thing about Chicago is all the little neighborhood joints that put out wonderful food, from amazing Thai, to exotic Mexican (yes, really, Chicago has arguably the best Mexican food in the US), to regional US treats and so much more.

Maybe The Bristol, Sun Wah BBQ, Mixteco, or who knows. All depends on one's mood, I think. Perhaps we should get together for a bite?

Bit of an exaggeration that MG is in danger or useless. Every top chef is still chasing those stars. In fact, a lot of doubt has been cast recently on blog/internet review sites as paid reviews are allegedly becoming rampant. So have to do research across many types of reviews. That being said, Chicago is fortunate to have some of the best restaurants and spectrum of choices outside of Spain or France.

But either they already closed it or about to. It got two Michelin stars and is by far my fav restaurant in Chicago. I'm sad they are closing it, but I'm sure something wonderful will go up in it's place. For those who don't know- it's the restaurant in the Peninsula. I have a wonderful memory of an amazing date (non-civvie) there. I tried Tru after this one and wasn't quite as impressed tho everyone seems to rave about it. Can't wait to try another one on the new Mich list!

One of my long-time downtown favorites is Bistro 110, near the Water Tower. Frommer's gives it 3 stars. Good quality food, interesting menu, reasonable prices.

Wow! It had to have been there for at least 30 years. I used to go there in the late '70s or early '80s.
