Visiting soon and NEED to know what restaurants I MUST indulge in. I'm a food lover. I do not discriminate against a good meal/can eat any style of food. Please share your favorite restaurants in the Downtown/Airport areas.

Located in the financial district, apx the corner of Deerbourn and Monroe. On the northwest corner of that intersection is where the old first chicago used to sit on right on the street, with the old bank, owned by god knows who, you will see a glass enclosure that houses an elevator to the lower level, where Nick's is. The service is beyong anything, their food is so superior, and up to a few years ago the only place where you could still get fresh abolone (shit I know I spelled that wrong, sorry). It is prepared perfectly, just don't ask the price. To take someone there for business, or pleasure is really special. My old boss, many years ago was trying to buy Nick's one barstool, one table, one chair, at a time, he never did complete the takeover. enjoy
It's now recently reopened at the Merchandise Mart as a concept of Really Nice restaurants, the owners of The Clubhouse at Oak Brook Shopping Center. Decent food, but certainly not the old Nick's you refer to in the Looop.
I used to frequent the old underground Nicks that oldmgic referred to. It was always fantastic. I found Nicks in Rosemont by O'Hare on Higgins road to be just as good at the time. Then all the rest of Nick's properties were sold off to 3rd parties (Hawaii and Florida too). I tried the Honolulu location and was not impressed. I later went back to the now closed Clark street location which opened after the underground closed and it was so-so.
My memory of the original is still so vivid that I just might try their latest downtown site, but I expect it's just another example of someone buying a brand name and then not keeping it up.
I'd like to hear from anyone regarding the Rosemont location before I return. BTW, Abalone is still on the menu.
Province was the best restaurant I went to in 2011 and should not be missed. Roy's consistently has great seafood, though I had a wonderful pork chop there this past weekend. If you like Opus One, you will like these restaurants.
