A. The legislation is sitting on Gov. Quinn's desk, and he has until August 24 to sign the bill. B. The DAY HE SIGNS THE BILL, IT IS LAW THAT DAY!!, The bill has an immediate effective date and when Quinn puts his John Hancock to the legislation it is OVER. The legislation is failrly vague when it comes to definitions, so an agressive law enforcement prosecutor could go after RS2k and "ATTEMPT" to make the case that advertising comes under the "pimping or soliciting" aspect of the law. I am sure that there are lawyers from the criminal bar that would love to argue and defend the case if brought to trial, but I am not sure that any of us would like to be on that side of the table. This law will have a defining impact on this hobby once enacted. This is scary shit my friends, we are all at the mercy of some politico and their ego for publicity. Any activity transpired in relation to things done in the hobby now opens us up to FELONY convictions and punishment. To paraphrase the Old Sgt. on Hill Street Blues at the end of daily roll call "Everyone be careful out there"!! The End Demand group had a huge victory in May at the hobbyist expense.
He has at least 300 bills sitting on his desk from the spring session, and he is taking his time reviewing every bill. The file on his desk contains only letters in support of the bill, unless there is extreme public pressure in this election cycle, I doubt he makes many changes. He needs pressure.
Forgive my impatience with everyone who's done such a fine job, I just got through with a PM exchange on this and have no answers. I've already sent an email with the best I can do at a reason why the juvenile/trafficking parts of the bill are okay, but the parts targeting adults aren't. I'm pretty much out of ideas and I'll bet a lot of others don't know what to say, either.
It sounds like Quinn's too busy to sign it, so it will just become law. Maybe the provider ads for Chicago can be set up on Milwaukee sites? I don't know how practical that would be. I don't know if it would still be a problem or not.
Unfortunately anyone coming out against that specific portion of the proposition is going to be accused of taking part in or supporting the industry. I thought the language was added to some other legislation. Is there any chance the main issue can be vetoed?
I'm playing devil's advocate here...You know, just because he's against prostitution, doesn't mean the death penalty for em' all. You would think that a decent person would at least be able to know that the punishment should fit the crime, and do some re-writing. Hard to beleive that even puritan beaurocrats can't understand the difference between what happens among adults is a completely normal, as opposed to dealing with children. Idiot politicians.
