Boycotting Downtown

OK. I have had enough. I hope that you will forgive this rant, but I have had it up to my neck with downtown appointments.

A little backstory. Yesterday I made an appointment with a girl up on the north side. I live in the Oak Brook area. You would think that leaving at 1:15 PM for a 2:30 appointment would be plenty of time, right? It is only 35 miles by the GPS, right? Wrong!

I-55 was a parking lot. It took me nearly two hours to get to the location. Thankfully the lady in question was very patient and did not cancel due to my tardyness. So after a fun hour, it was time to head back on the interstate.

2 hours.

That's how long it took me to get back to my place. There was a time-frame of 35 minutes where at no time did I exceed 15 miles an hour. I am not exaggerating.

And what was the cause of a hold-up? A gapers delay, of course. Or rather, two of them. In one instance, a semi had broken down by the side of the road. On the other one, a fire truck had two flat tires.

"OOHHH, look! A fire truck has a flat! Let's slow down and take a real good look, so we can back traffic up for 11 stinking miles!!!"

Listen, I understand that things are going to be bad while they finish the construction on 88 and 290, but I made a solemn vow yesterday. I am not going downtown anymore. I will go to Oak Brook, O'Hare, Schaumburg, anywhere else, but I am not going to deal with downtown traffic, downtown parking, and the constant headache of trying to get into and out of the city. Let some other sucker deal with it. We should not have to spend 4 hours on the road for 60 minutes of fun.

I would therefore encourage all ladies and agencies to seriously consider taking pity on those of us out in the burbs, and schedule some time outside the city. I know that many visiting ladies do this at O'Hare already, but if some of the agencies would do this I think it would be well worth their while.

End of rant.

Thanks,

I have attempted Goldcoast and always get fucked. Parking n traffic are always an issue. I have learned the hard way to stay in the burbs.

Chicago traffic sucks and it's a huge discouraging factor for you boys.

Oh, you meant not in a good way, lol...

Thanks for understanding that traffic this summer is coitus interruptus. Tough decision choosing between nookie and not losing 3 hours of the day we'll never get back. I'm opting for my 3 hours most of this summer...

Satan himself (or one of his civil engineer demon agents) engineered the Chicago Metropolitan highway system. I am convinced of it. You see, it is merely a ploy for him to collect more souls. I have taken the Lord's name in vain and had more murderous thoughts whilst on the Eisenhower than I ever had in my entire life.

I live about 35-40 miles from Chicago. 35-40 miles should not routinely take 2-2.5 hours to drive, but yet it consistently does.

I don't go into the city unless I am going to be earning a great deal of money for it. It makes the drive from hell a little less hellish when I have my friend Mr. Franklin to make conversation :)

But regardless the revenue downtown never seems to exceed the expenses.  I love the burbs, and it's the only way to go. :)

If you live in the city you cant be sure how long it will take to get to the burbs...and if you live in the burbs you cant tell how long it will take to get into the city...everyone is singing the same song...has to do with traffic and road work....

Like hell. It took me ten years to get this place. I love where I live. I am never moving again. Let them come to me.

: )

I live 150 miles from the far west suburbs so in order to see anyone it’s a long trip  I certainly do not like the hassles of downtown either but ANY excursion to see someone is an all day event for me.

Nobody is boohooing, just keepin it real. Chicago traffic is a constant battle, if you're willing to keep fighting it power to you.  :) I say fuck downtown.  I like the burbs, and I do just fine out here.

how much fun it is to fuck in the car? Get a carpool of providers and hobbyists and a designated driver. Is there any better way to kill time on the drive? Why only fuck downtown or in the burbs? Fuck on the way there and back too. That torn-up 290 is bumpy but in the right position, those could be really nice bumps :-)

While some here lament the traffic congestion and the extra time it adds to their commute, I was simply pointing out that others (such as myself), from out of town, ALWAYS have an even longer commute.

I am sure there are hobbyists out there (that live 4 or 5 hours or more away from a metro area) that are in even worse shape than I am.

It's just a light hearted version of the fable about the man who felt bad because he had no shoes, until he saw the man who had no feet.

There's always someone worse off than you/me.

last time I checked gawkers, idiot drivers and insane traffic jams existed in BOTH directions in this city.

As much as I feel your pain in dealing with the same crap heading out to your neck of the woods, I don't think its fair to the guys that hobby in the city to try and steer ladies away from working downtown.

And frankly, you have it easier than we do because you can drive to a train station and jump a train downtown, then cab it to your appt.  We can't do that because once we get to the burbs we'll still need a car to get to her incall.

alternatives to the automobile.  I come to Chicago a few times a year and have always been impressed by the pretty good public transit system and especially for downtown.  We have a similar situation here in DC as many folks simply won't get out of their cars and ride the Metro.  Many visiting providers solve this by splitting their visit with a few nights in a downtown Metro-accessible location for those of us comfortable with and having good access to Metro and a few nights in the burbs where the car-committed can come visit.  Sophie has a good solution, although I would point out that all 3 places she selected have reasonable service from CTA rail.  And I think Sophie would do well in any location as observant gents should rush to see her wherever she is.  But why wouldn't you consider driving to Midway or O'Hare and parking to take the El downtown?

Those of us who work downtown can always wiggle a little playtime from our busy schedules, i.e., the nooner....but to do that where we live, drive, drive, drive...especially those of us who live in the hinter land, hence, that's why we take train...and continued safe hobbying.
