Walk straight to the concierge desk or the front desk and ask confidently where is the elevator. Self conscience is psychological issue whick makes you feel, everyone is watching you and wants to know what the fuck you are doing. Just not the case. No one gives crap.

Moreover, there million reasons people go to a hotel and unless you are in sleazy hotel, staff is too busy to watch you or to inetegorate in the manner you describe. If they do, I would not engage in a conversation, period.

Keeping your mouth shut ways works very well in all situations.

Reading a previous post the scenario came to me as what to do, so here goes.

What if I or any client entered a Hotel and someone said, "excuse me sir but do you have a room with us?" You know you didn't find the elevator right off or was kind of lost in the lobby. Or.... you exited a room and someone started asking questions.....you know....questions.
My first thought is, she ain't registered as her allies so saying "oh I was visiting a friend", ain't gona' work because the next question is going to be, "What is this friends name?"
I'm not going to say, "oh its "Bodacious Betty", now that would be the start of a very bad day and would absolutely scare sheeet out of me!

What to do?

I always look like I'm texting as I walk through the lobby. Or even hold you're phone to you're ear and have a fake conversation. Just act like a busy buisness man and nobody will ever approach you. Don't panic, hell the truth is stranger than fiction and nobody will believe you. Had a hotel employee ask if I needed assistance once I just smiled and said "no I'm just here to see my mistress be a pain if my wife found out" I look so average and unassuming that they just laughed me off as I walked away. It's all in the delivery man, act cool and you'll have no worries.

Try to remember to tell the gents exactly where the elevators are in relation to the front door/front desk, to avoid that 'lost' look.  I also try to ask where the elevators are, if I'm going to a new hotel, and I always ask where I can park if it's a private residence.

What really gets complicated is when the gent goes to the right hotel chain, just not the exact hotel/area you are in.  This has happened to me twice -- luckily, no one answered the door in the hotel he wasn't supposed to be at!

Telling your visitors where the elevator is should be mandatory & in the Escort 101 handbook !!

But many times I have to ask :(

As Case points out, if you look & act like your staying there, no one is going to bother you.  I always carry a nice briefcase & dress like I belong there.

Well asking where the elevators are is really critical.  But I have gone to hotels to pick up colleagues and even family members.  I have stopped and asked where the elevators are and have never gotten asked who was I there to see.  But just walking thru the lobby if you act like you belong then you do.  Be polite and smile.  Many hotels will have staff greet you, greet them back.
Now here is one for ya, I have walked in with a provider carrying her bag as she checked in. Try that one some time.  But then, she is a friend that I am driving to the hotel, none of thier business is it

Don't make it more than it is. All you need to do if you don't know where the elevator is when you walk in is ask "Excuse me, where is the elevator?" If you are asked leaving a room and someone asks you a question, you have two choices. 1. Keep on walking because it is none of their business and simply smile or 2. Simply say I am not sure how that is your business, smile and keep on walking.

People visit people all the time for legit reasons, even if you look lost or nervous and someone asks if they can help you, simply ask them where the elevator is or do as I do I use the steps unless it is in a hotel on a floor higher than you are willing to walk. If they are asking to help you unless there is a sting they only want to help you and are not concerned who you are visiting or why. Just relax.

and the decor in this lobby will cost you a diamond...
