What is the most convenient area for hobbiest when visiting Raleigh?
I always suggest Crabtree Valley area.

CrabtreeMall, at east end of mall, there are about six hotels on a hillside, and they are a short walk to the stores in the mall. They are convenient for hobbyists.
As one of hobbyists said, the RDU airport is best if you want to serve other areas such as Chapel Hill, Greensboro, the Triad... etc.
