It looks like I lost my phone. So now is a good time to correct some mistakes I made with it. What service is pay as you go that does not require another phone number that you use to activate it. With Trac phone I had to have my other phone to call my hobby phone number to get it activated. I need to act soon, an important event is coming.

You can use Google Voice to make that call. It won't show on your main phone, it is an app and you can uninstall or log out.

Plus if you order the phone online, there are some that are free.

I recommend getting a burner phone from Walmart, 7-11, CVS, etc. using cash.  Make it a dumb phone where you can take the batteries out.  I would not use Google Voice.  There are many that swear by it...but remember, Google sucks up every piece of data and information about you and will somehow identify you and will associate your hobby life with your real life.  Best to avoid uncomfortable discussions by keeping your devices separate.

There is the problem. I go to the mart and buy a phone. To activate said phone I have to make a call to and a return call from a number I have access to. not safe.

A bit convoluted/complicated/technical, but it worked. Things may have changed since this was successful.

Could not make and return the call form your own phone, and then simply delete those calls from the call history? Not sure how anything would be linked to you that way?

I blame the TV show the wire, as that brough the burner phone concept to the masses.
