An old man and woman were married for years, even though they could find nothing but fault in each other. When they fought, it was always tooth and nail, yowling and screeching. The man embarrassed his wife constantly by publicly saying: “You never do anything right. When I die, I will dig my way out of my grave just so I can haunt your every waking moment for the rest of your miserable life!”

The townsfolk believed he was a black wizard, and that he was responsible for every missing cat, dog, or rat. There were often strange sounds at all hours of the night. Unexpectedly, the man died under such strange circumstances, there had to be a closed casket funeral. Some said it was the revenge of cats, dogs, and rats. Others said it was the wife.

After the burial, the wife made a beeline for the local bar, lit up the night with her merriment and dancing. Friends and neighbors approached to ask if she was afraid her husband was really going to make good on his threat and dig himself out of that grave in the middle of the night.

The wife put down her drink and pretzels, smiled contentedly, and said, “Let him dig. He always said I did everything wrong, so I had them turn the casket upside down!”
