Most recently I had a missed connection in Tampa, FL. This person and I had communicated for a few weeks, and the day before I was supposed to meet with him I sent a message to see if everything was still on schedule for him. No word back by bedtime so I send another PM (P411) at bedtime saying that I would check again in the morning.
Next morning I wake up and nothing. I start getting ready for my day to move on and at 9:30am the hotel fire alarm goes off. We were supposed to meet at 9 that morning.
Now normally when there's a fire alarm at the hotel I'm staying at (yes, it happens a few times a year, lol), I will call down to the front desk and they'll say it's a false alarm and the fire department will shut the alarm off when they arrive.
However, this time when I called down, the front desk said they were looking into it and would call me back. Five minutes later after not hearing anything, I figure this is the one day that everything will go to hell and that I need to get my hiney downtstairs, just incase. I go downstairs and hang out for about 10 minutes when they finally call all clear. By that time, I'm thinking that I just need to get my ass on the road and head for my next date in Naples.
As I'm driving down, I see a few missed calls and start listening to messages...it was my 9am. He had a surprise party the night before and didn't check e-mail the next morning when he woke up, but he was still wanting to meet for our 9am.
I told him about the morning's events and that I was on my way to Naples by then, which he was not happy about. In reality, it was probably best that things fell through because I can only imagine the position (literally, lol) we'd have been in by that time, but we've spoken at length since then and will definitely make it happen next time.
It's hard to know how dependable another person is when you have not met them, and even sometimes after you have. Next time I know we'll be good to go, and I look forward to it.
Shit happens. Live, learn, and move on, even if trying it all over again.
Time for some STEAK, baby!!! Have a great weekend!
