Hey ya'll! I will be home this week, at last! I've been to California and back, and I now have a greater appreciation for good ole NC. This trip started out as a big clusterf*ck. I stopped at a nice hotel in downtown Nashville and got evacuated because of the flooding. All the roads out of town were blocked by water and accidents. I felt so sorry for all those people whose homes were destroyed.

When I finally got out, I realized I had packed summer clothes for a trip through cool countryside. I thought LA was supposed to be hot!! I had one pair of jeans, all sorts of shorts, sandals, heels, and T-shirts, and some nice little sexy dresses, but no coat, and no walking shoes.

The weather at night was down in the forties nearly everywhere I went. It even snowed in Colorado. Who knew? I wore the same friggin' pair of jeans for two weeks, and washed them in the bathtub. Yes, I can improvise. Oh, yes I can.

If you've never driven across country, both on the southern and the northern sides, do it. I have a bajillion photos and memories of views I will never forget. There was this one night in the desert in Yermo, in this little hotel...I opened the window and listened to the desert winds all night after watching the sunset. Heaven, that's what it felt like. It almost made me want to move out there. I kept taking "ooh" and "aah" photos while driving. It's a wonder I didn't run off the road! What would I have said to the state trooper who showed up to write me a ticket? You know, they do not take BJ's in place of tickets. It just isn't done. Really. Dang it.

So, when I return home, can I please have a really nice welcome from my friends? I've already found out who missed me most. I'd give them a rock from the desert when we meet, but I don't think that would go over so well. I guess it will just have to be something else. We will think of something, I am sure.
