I'm wanting to visit the Greenville area within the next month or so.
Any recommendations on the area to stay in?

Google hotels on Woodruff Road or Roper Mountain Road, Greenville for a main shopping area...  Near GSP Airport, try Googling hotels in Greer on The Parkway or Pelham Road.

Try these:

a. Hilton

b. Hyatt Place

c. La Quinta

All located in or near the Haywood Road area. These are 4 and 5 star hotels, very high end.

Also:

Wyndom on Beacon Drive (near Greenville-Spartangurg Airport), also 5 start

 
Flea Bags to stay away from:

Any and ALL Days Inns, Country Hearth, La Quinta Inn on Woodruff Road. All of these
places have been raided by LE (prostitution and meth labs, really low end stuff, not TER folks)

Super 8 in Powdersville, Super Economy Lodge in Mauldin Road; Quality Inn on S. Pleasantburg Dr.
These are all dumps (2 stars or less).

Nice hotel (forgot its' name) on Tower Drive at Greenville Downtown Airport. Reasonable, clean.
Corporate pilots stay there, so you know its' good.
