North Carolina is a "stand your ground state". If you feel threatened in your home, vehicle, or work place, you have the right to defend yourself with deadly force.

I was actually told by a deputy police chief in my county, that due to my living situation, my character, the fact that I am female, and of small stature, I can shoot to kill someone threatening me anywhere on my property.  

It's good to know the law. I've had two stalkers, and I refused to be bullied by either
