No not that kind ya bunch of perverts!! LOL!!

This is my second favorite subject food. So when you're having one of those days were ya just need some good comfort food or just say hell with the diet, what's you're favorite guilty pleasure? I love those little mom and pop hole in the wall joints that look awful from the outside but are worth the visit or the drive.

1. Keaton's BBQ, Cleveland NC, middle of nowhere in the corner of Rowan, Davie and Iredell counties. This place is a shack with literally nothing around it, but it's been there 50 years. What do you get when you pit cook a chicken then drop it in a deep fryer and smother it in secret hot sauce? Freaking awesomeness!!! It's a dumpy looking place but its worth the drive.

2. Snooks BBQ, Advance NC this place looks like a shack town or something. 6 or so little building on Hwy 158. You order in one then go sit in another one that kind of looks like a small 1960's house trailer to eat. Don't let the looks fool ya that's some good pig!!!

3. PB's , Winston Salem, this is another grubby looking joint. But the best hotdogs in town. IMO, toasted buns and all. I'm sure there will be someone defending Kermit's or Pulliams and they are great too but PB's can't be beat.

Who else has a hidden gem to share?

Mert's Heart and Soul - Uptown Charlotte  - Great fried chicken and best cornbread you'll ever eat

Mac's Speed Shop. -  South end Charlotte. best barbecue. They make there own sauces and sell them all over the country. Waitresses also flirt with you.

Basil - Great Thai place in uptown Charlotte.

If I do that again, even once, I'll start doing it all the time.

It's cheap, quick, messy, and amazing!

Their BBQ is very good, but their onion rings are fantastic.

Don't get there often enough, but then that's a good thing or my waistline would be worse than it already is :), but Casey's BBQ in Wilmington is some of the best soul food I have ever had.

Basil - Thai
Cowfish - Sushi and Burgers
Eez - Sushi
Dresslers - Steak and Seafood
Cabo Fish Taco - was on Dine In, Drives and Diners
Merts

Clearly I do not discriminate against food.

1. Little Pigs BBQ, Alpine Rd in Columbia.  Serve yourself buffet of some of the best BBQ and fried chicken around.  Banana pudding for dessert.  What it lacks in building quality it makes up for in spades with great food.

2. Barbecue King Drive in, Charlotte, NC.  I saw the place on Diners, Drive ins and Dives.  I went there why in town.  It's a dump, but the food...wow!  How about fried chicken, dipped in BBQ sauce?  And, you eat in your car, a true drive in like the 50's.

Damn, I'm hungry :-)

Get there early as he sells out and the grouper bites go fast. I go there when I hit up Fullsteam. I'll take you if you want.

and NO it's NOT a Gym. It's a sports bar, no sign, been there forever, several US Presidents have stopped through to try their famous Pimento Cheeseburgers!

 Rosewood Drive in Columbia, SC

You would have to google them to find them, like I said, No sign!

When I travel I love to try small hidden places that most people don't know about, you know local spots.

I am getting hungry now!

Have a Great Day everyone!

Muahs,
SS

When passing through Shelby I stop and inhale at least 3 hot dogs all the way at Barnette's on N. Post Rd---then I look around to see if anybody else has any that they are not gonna eat:))~~
AND when I am at the other end of the state, I make a bee line to Michael's Sea Food in Carolina Beach to put my face into a bowl of his Chowder---my 2nd fav thing to put my face into, but one is food for the body and the other food for the soul;P~~~

Recommend the BBQ/chicken combo. The late B's daughters run this place, and they are some of the sweetest ladies in NC. They sell out every day so get there early! Closed Sun and Mon

Since there is hardly anything to speak up about! :-) It's almost entirely chains and fast food here in Lynchburg, but there are a few places worth mentioning.

1st, you can't get an overstuffed roast beef deli sandwich here. Everybody uses that fake, soaked in brine pseudo-roast beef. Blah. However, you CAN get a roast beef sub - at Jersey Mikes; the only place I have found that still roasts their own beef, on site. A little pricey, but worth it to beef lovers.

For deli sandwiches OTHER than roast beef, the West Side Deli next to the Kroger on Timberlake Road makes very good sandwiches on the cheap. The Corned Beef Rueben is decent, and only about 6 bucks with chips and a pickle.

The best pub/restaurant I have found is the Depot, downtown by the railroad tracks. Casual, GREAT menu, huge salads, reasonable prices, hot waitstaff. I have found that in this area if you order a Greek Salad, you generally get iceburg lettuce, low quality feta cheese, a few sliced-up canned black olives, and italian dressing. The Depot does a nice job with a couple of stuffed grape leaves, an assortment of greek olives, anchovies, real cheese, and a nice dressing. I ordered one with some chicken tenders (also awesome) and could not finish it, the first time in my life I ever said that about a salad :-)

Have not found a great steak or even a good steak sandwich, nor have I found a bona-fide "home-cooking" diner. There are a small few, and none are up to par. The best seafood in town is at Red Lobster, which should tell you something about the quality of the local seafood :-(

I have not shopped much in Roanoke, I have a feeling that the fare is better, so maybe I will explore this winter. I will put in a half-a-vote for the K&W cafeterias, I guess they are bigger in the Carolinas, but there is one in Roanoke; I was pleasantly surprised by the food. Nothing to write home about, but much closer to the home-cooking diner food that I have found so far.

NEXT WEEK: Clarence compares and contrasts roadside hot dog carts   :D

Southport Raw Bar in Ft Lauderdale, Schooner Wharf Bar in Key West.  Geez, no wonder I'm a fat guy...

I love their drinks and shrimp curry rice bowl but they are always packed!
