Just ask them how they feel about last minute, and that often, due to your work this is the only notice that you can give. Most of the ladies that pre-screen are low volume anyway so would prob fit you in. BTW I am in total agreement with you on the agency ladies. Besides I find the "independent" ladies to be better on the whole (no pun intended, but still funny in my mind).
Scenario: Due to my work I may get free time handed to me at the last minute, usually not good when looking to meet up with a new lady. I have seen some people mention that agencies will pre-screen you but I am not a big fan of agencies, to many moving parts and thus to many possibilities for people to squeal if they need to save there own backside. (Not saying that any do this, just my personal feeling).
So, my question is, what are the feelings of the independent ladies doing pre-screening so that in the event of a last minute schedule change so that, myself or anyone else in the same boat, would be more likely to be able to see you since the screening process is done. I realize that last minute appointments are tough as it is but having that process out of the way would certainly make things a little bit easier.
I know the screening issue process has kept me away from seeing some ladies who I really want to, not that I don't want to be screened but the timing of it.

Getting the screening over with is a really nice thing to do for last minute or meetings planned ahead. It is still a gamble that both of you have last minute time at the same time but odds are much better once you feel some one is reasonably safe to meet.
