seems to lump all agencies into a single pile.  Several are very careful that their gals are of age and do not get moved around to paid for rooms.  While there is still risks for them, if they avoid the stench of trafficing, they are somewhat safer than those that do not.

I don't know if anyone caught the nature of the charges brought, but they constitute a game changer for the Massachusetts hobby community!

"...charged with one count each of trafficking in persons for sexual servitude and keeping a house of ill fame."

The first charge is a very serious charge, not a misdemeanor. Serious prison time!

"The arrests are part of the Attorney General’s second human trafficking case under the new human trafficking law in the state, which went into effect Feb. 19."

Read the the wording that is substituted for section 53a of chapter 272. More important is the shift in emphasis of enforcement. Anyone involved in any way in the hobby is well advised to read this bill in its entirety, it only takes a few minutes. Then you can reach an informed opinion.

The first arrest for "trafficking" was applied to a group of three in Lawrence MA.  I only know this because it was front page in my local paper.  Two women and a man, all in early 20s.  There was NO trafficking but they were charged with the new law anyway.  Do you know the result of that case?  I am curious.

Clearly the law is aimed at agency owners, has nothing to do with actual trafficking.  The result will be more indi's visiting Boston, less agencies touring.

I think "how this law is going to be ABUSED" would be more a accurate expectation.
Don't get me wrong, traffickers should burn, but it also serves as a huge threat to legit agencies. (by legit, I of course mean those NOT dealing in human trafficking)  The wording is ambiguous enough to use against any agency type operation, if they so choose.
Unfortunately, in the massage parlors I am familiar with, it can be difficult to tell. With rotating staff and a formidable language barrier, it has made me think twice about trying any place new. Instead I am frequenting the one place close to me because they seem to keep the same staff, and that puts me a little more at ease about their willingness to provide freely.
The state has essentially said they are incapable of winning their fight on prostitution playing by the rules of law. Instead, they will use a new law that no one in their right mind would have opposed to intimidate and terrify legitimate provider agencies into closing up shop.
I'm not holding my breath for the first ACTUAL case of human trafficking they bust up.  Let me know when they arrest the guy that owns the boat. Until then it's all just bullshit.

I think the powers that be are playing games with the law...  Which is not unheard of.
But you can't allow the government to call one crime something totally different for it's convenience.

Whether people think prostitution should be legalized or not is not the issue.

But to call people involved in prostitution where all were willing adult participants...  Sex trafficking or Kidnapping or something it is not....  Is a crime against all citizens and the integrity of the legal system.

They need to be called out on this. It is a gross abuse of power and can't be left in the dark.

In the same week the Kennebunk PD demonstrate how to make their little resort town's name synonymous with sin by dribbling out the names, the Wellesley Ma. PD bust up yet another massage parlor operating in their waspy wonderland.
It would seem unlikely that the residents of either executive enclave appreciate their extended stay in the Herald. I would not be surprised if payback continues for a while in Maine in more than one direction.
Better from the resident's perspective to try and make it a one day story and move on.

One of the discussions of the case said that some of the videos were out on the tube sites.  So, they may have been releasing them as hidden cam or amateur movies.  From the CBS/AP article I found:

"When the landlord checked the office himself, he found a massage table and a video camera set up on a tripod. He told police he later found an online porn video ... that was recorded in the office, which he recognized by the walls, the floor and the window."

It's not clear if that was a video of the the woman and her boyfriend or one of the clients.
