Bitch session? I am so in today! Yey.

My only complaint is that people are mean. . and sensitive. A board evolving around what it evolves around is awfully "politically correct" which is bazaar considering what our common denominator is. .

I think more people would post if there weren't so much attacking or banter on the sidelines. Also, I would ban alias' . . . let the masks come off!

Meow. . now I am all excited!

what can be done to strum up more activity on the Boston and New England boards?

I find myself reading other regional boards and wonder what's with our boards? There's no buzz, interest or otherwise and makes my activities dull.

I'm being careful what I'm asking for b/c I'm sure there will be moments of WTF.

It's a new year. Let's start off solid and strong... longevity is key.

the friendly MOD

I will comment.   in the not to distant Past this was one hell of a board with many great hobbiest and providers.  Then for some reason it was moderated so tightly and it seemed that many of the tight butt Yankees were bashing each other over the simpilist of things, an off the cuff look at humor or some general banter, or abusing the posting calander limits whatever,  people were bashing each other for the posts that it drove many away to include myself.  We simply said we don't need the pharocial BS and now prefer to simply view in fear of being bashed for sharing unique views.   Many of the alias users caused this board to deteriorate.  I feel flipping some of these A**holes when they attack unjustifiably others would be a way to weed out the bsd apples and a step to returning this board to what it used to be.

flow with the 1st Amendment within reason.

There's a new MOD and I'm sans baggage of the past. I simply ask people to be as cordial as possible.

At times, I'm sure that will be difficult. But we can all make a concerted effort to do so.

Take a moment when the discussions get heated and count to 60 before hitting that send button.

But I'm willing to take that 1st step to get it kick started again.

On one hand I can understand why boards need to be moderated, but since it takes so long for moderated members (like me) to have their posts appear, the flow of the conversation is impacted.  I found its not worth it to post in the first place.

My original post took less than 20 minutes to appear....wow.  Thanks for making me look bad!  :)

Exactly. Each time there was a good discussion I would leave a comment and then it would take forever to get approved. It killed any conversation that was going on and it killed my desire to post a response to anybody knowing that 15 other posts could go up before mine got approved.

It just isn't worth it. It is like talking on the phone with someone and having a minute delay, what is the point?

Do you need someone to create a discussion or do you have the capacity to initiate a discussion?

That's all I'm asking is that people should begin to post. No need to be the hidden reader. I'm asking you to come out of the closet and jump right in.

;)

As I recall, there were some new rules put in place about the same time as new moderators were put in.

The "7 day rule" eliminated a lot of lady's posts.

The "no negative replies" to ladies ad posts also reduced the post count.

Both these rules and a few others I don't recall were put in place by Staff with good intentions.  One side-effect is less posts.  I'm sure Mod will remember all the deleting he had to do when these rules were first set up.  I'm sure all the new rules have benefits, but also some unanticipated drawbacks.

......... but a few months ago, changes were made to the accessibility of information for Basic members. Can't see ratings, etc.

Maybe basic members are visiting less, since they know that they can't see the info they want.  When I am in Basic status, ter is of less value to me, as a hobbyist.

I "earn" my vip status by making corrections to profiles. This takes time, but I do it for the status it gets me, and for the integrity of the board.

As an incentive, ter could award credit to people that contribute to the discussion boards, as well as the reviews database.  There would need to be qualifiers for this, so people wouldn't crowd the board with bs just to get credits.

Giving credit to people that start meaningful discussions would be one way to do it. It would serve ter and the posters equally
