I'm still a newbie to the area, and I usually have the worst luck in the world finding street parking. Where are your favorite parking spots in downtown Boston? I'm looking for convenient paid parking garages (not going to even bother with finding a street spot) within short walking distance to downtown hotels. I'm planning to be there on a Saturday morning if that helps. So far I've never been to the downtown -- usually stick with backbay/newbury area.

......park in the Pru garage, purchase something I would normally buy elsewhere such as a book at Barnes and Noble. Have the ticket validated and receive a reduced rate.

There are plenty of metered, two hour parking spaces on Broad Street and the surrounding side streets (Milk, Water, India Row).  I guess that's considered the financial district, but it's definitely within walking distance of most downtown hotels.  You might have to cruise around a bit but something generally opens up.  You should be able to find a space on a Saturday morning.  There is also a lot on Broad Street and the 75 State Street garage if you can't find anything on the street (parking, that is), or if you plan to stay longer.  Good luck and bring quarters.

The garage is big. Take one of the level tags placed near elevators and stick it in your pocket. If you have a pen, write the poll location of your car on the level tag. The PRU has exceptional shops and resturants if you want to do shopping or eating before or after your hobby. If you buy for an SO, have a good story handy.

It can get full, especially on a Saturday when shows are going on around there, but it is pretty cheap for downtown.

From reading TER, I gather that a lot of guys don't like to park AT the destination or in a specific hotel garage to avoid a variety of potential problems. So I avoid that, too.

As a native, I can usually sniff out a decent place to park and avoid the garages. Sometimes, I'll park in one area and hop the T to an appointment elsewhere.

But there are private and public parking garages all over the place: big garage between South Station and Chinatown (Leather district), the underground lot at the Common (enter from Charles St.), the Pru garages, the underground lot in the Financial district ...

Someone suggested running a second errand to get merchant validation at a garage. Until the girls start providing validation, that's a good idea.

Another suggestion, for any city: google "Cityname Public Parking" and get some good lists and maps and, maybe, up to date fees.

I Think taking the T is the best...you can park in any surrounding areas cheap and hop on any of the lines.
