Hello everyone,
It has happened again today, a VERY well known poster and long time client's wife called me twice today! She wanted to know who she was calling as the number was on her husbands cell phone bill numerous times.

I was caught off guard so I said it was the Winchester Tennis club. I thought of that since people are always calling asking for it. After I hung up I then realized it is the other phone that has the very simmilar number to the Winchester Tennis Club, not the one she called on.

OOPS my mistake! She then called back , so I put her on hold for 15 mins. till she hung up. I do not like to be put on the spot like this

So guys, PLEASE PLEASE be extra carefull when calling us. Get a prepaid phone, so you don't get a bill. Call from your office, not your home phone(if you have a nosy wife or S.O.).

Oh and Bob, you better go out and buy a tennis racket.

I always call from work or a land line. When I get to the location I always make sure I have change for a pay phone. The couple times I ended up using my cell, I threw out the bill right from the mailbox. She scrutinizes any strange number and has on occassion called them. However all my numbers on my bill have always been legit.

I know a guy who was called while he was at his mistess' house, on her cell, when he said he was working. She handed him her phone.....

Most cell phone providers now offer paperless billing.  No invoice is sent to you via email, you simply review the bill online (password protected) and pay it either with a credit card or a check (via the phone).

You can opt for an email notice that a new bill is ready each month and you can also have a direct debt (for those that trust such a thing) straight from your credit card or checking account.

I like my personal privacy and I find this the best solution there is.

If you have broadband internet, you might also want to try using a digital phone service (like Vonage or Lineo).  The free call-forwarding, caller id and voicemail features are great and for $50/month for free unlimited local & long-distance calling, it is great.  These folks also have a paperless billing system.

Just thought you might want to know.

And a couple of other places did too! They didn’t like it when I asked that if on arrival in the area would they accept a call from a pay phone. They implied that having a cell somehow related to ones stature. Their $$$ loss.  I have a good friend going through a divorce because of a cell phone, well... and maybe because he was screwing around also. Not having a cell and the trail it leaves significantly improves my chances of not being caught. What they actually don’t understand is that some 14 year olds who don’t have a pot to pee in have cells and SOME 40 year olds who make 300k don’t. I will never have a cell!

I guess you've never heard of pay as you go cell phones? Also, you can get a traditional cell phone plan and opt to not receive a paper statement.

Personally, I don't blame providers for being suspicious if you say you don't have a cell phone.

many providers DO care that you play safe..it guarantees that you will be back..However, logistically it can be difficult and somewhat discomforting to deal with a gent without one..as an indy, I prefer to have some method of contact just prior to the appt to disclose my incall room and location and even more important for any last minute directions, changes etc...if I notice anything suspicious around the location I can give the emergency "heads up" call... I highly suggest pre-paid as well..everyone should have one in their emergency car kit anyhow incase of losing your other cell or if a battery runs out...PS...I don't consider sushi a "fad" but an essential food group!! *giggle* play safe and  play smart!

Hate to rub it in, guys, but I'd just like to say that I don't have those issues.  My girlfriend wouldn't call and be mad that I was seeing a provider, she'd be mad that she wasn't invited.

God, I'd hate to have to learn to play tennis.

I know with Cingular you can request to have your call history not shown on the bill. I'm sure other cell phone providers must do this too ? Unless you're a real neophyte,there is really no excuse for this...and calling from your home phone ? Well that's just plain dumb:(

The wife isn't very bright. She could have googled the phone number quicker than calling you- and what would have popped up? See below!

PS- T mobile prepaid cell phones are the only way to go. The little  blue Samsung.
