Want to start a new thread for my fellow hobbyists around providers that scam for deposits or bait and switch.  Either Pic or someone that says they are a gfe when they are not.

Great idea and will be interesting to read. But despite the temptation I’ve NEVER sent a deposit.

This is long overdue!

It will be hilarious to read the indignant rebuttals when they come in!

Scammer Routine #1 is to claim an act of disrespect on your part. Then you’ll hear: “I was going to return your deposit until you said / insulted me by [fill in the BS here.]”

Scammer Routine #2 is to completely revise, on the fly, policies published on their web sites. For example, one gem told me these policies did not include the cost of changing flight reservations which were, apparently, deductible from a deposit. Just a fabricated excuse! This was not a FMTY engagement.

A dishonest provider will say anything. Perhaps seeing their name here will change that.

Please don't get these providers confused with actual hackers.

If a provider's platform account had been hacked, (this usually happens when a hacker sends an email to providers account with same header/layout/logo as an advertising site, asking the provider to "click here" and "login" because you account needs to be "verified". Some provider mistake it for the actual advertising site and "clicks" a link in the fake email and BOOM, the hacker has your login information. They try that same login information and use it to try and logging into the email the provider may have listed. So now the hacker has access to possibly both email and ad login.
These hackers may now use these "provider accounts"... Well know providers even, and ask for DEPOSITS for appointments made. But these are not the actual provider.

But I agree that these actual scammer providers ruin it for the providers who are honest but require deposits.
