I think it has to do with the quality/excitement of the sex and how much you enjoy it; basically a broad explanation of why sexual frequency dies in monogamous long term relationships and why an open relationship or an affair can rekindle attraction to your long term partner.
So for me the more I enjoy recreational sex in the hobby the more sexual I feel and the more I enjoy and seek sex with SO. It's actually quite remarkable. So I laugh when I heard the old "if he is not fucking you he is getting it somewhere else", for me it's exactly the opposite .
