Ok don’t kill me not hobby related, making first trip to Fenway this summer any recommendations for a good hotel within walking distance of Fenway? Of course I checked the usual sites but nothing beats an actual recommendation from folks who know a city.

I've only been there for business functions, but it seems like a nice 4 star hotel.

It is a great location.  Just around the corner from the park and good restaurants surround it.

Maybe you prefer to have all of the hotel amenities, but ... there used to be a lot of AirBnB short term rentals not too far from Fenway.

Boston has started cracking down on illegal AirBnBs. People with Section 8 or subsidized apartments in Boston were using AirBnB to sub-let their Boston apartments from their Florida and Hawaii mansions.

There also used to be some regular bed and breakfast places in Back Bay, walking distance from Fenway.

If you are up to it, arrive the day before and hit on some BU students to see if anyone will let you spend the night in their dorm room, several BU dorms being within spitting distance of Fenway.  Now there's another thought: some colleges rent out their dorms for special events over the summer: alumni reunions, etc.. Call the BU housing office and ask if they have any dorm rooms available during the time of your visit.  (What other college dorms are near Fenway? Wentworth? Others?)

I second that on Hotel Commonwealth. It’s a gorgeous stay. I recommend it as you did say non-hobby related, but just in case you were planning on having company over that night, this hotel does require key cards so you’ll either have to meet the provider downstairs (not so discreet as the lobby is quite small) or have her meet you a few doors down to hand her an extra key and meet you upstairs shortly behind you. Also, it’s not the most soundproof if you care about things like that!

Another great option if you’re looking for something a little different is the Verb hotel. It’s an older building that’s completely remodeled into a very artsy trendy space. Depends on what type of place you’re looking for though. Commonwealth is fancy and classy. The Verb is more creative/ trendy. Then there are a few big name brand chain hotels nearby as well.
