Seeing a favorite.. in Western Suburb. I've seen her at least 4 or more times..
I got to the hotel, texted her and she sent me back the room #.. The place was pretty empty..
I walked in and the elevators were right across the small hall from the front desk.. she was on 3.. I went to 4.. and walked down from there..the doors weren't locked in the stairway.. I got to her room and we were chatting ..like old friends which we have become.. Of course our talk was about stuff connected with the hobby and her life.. .. all of a sudden there was a banging on the room door..
It was the woman from the front desk.. She said that her activity would not be permitted in that hotel.. she said.. what activity? The woman at the door said.. Prostitution..
I was back in the room out of site of the door.. The woman from the hotel said she had been in the hall listening to our conversation and was there to stop it. and asked the provider to leave.. She never actually saw me..
She closed the door ..after a few moments,  I went onto the hall and left via the stairs and a side exit.. I met the provider at a gas station and we re-scheduled later this week.. she was pretty shaken up and so was I..
Frankly, legally, there is an expectation of privacy in a hotel room. For the desk personnel to be standing in the hall eavesdropping was wrong.. but we were out of there before anyone else was called..
What an experience. plus the provider was out the room money as she had only arrived about 10 minutes or so before me.. That was probably the tip off I guess.. Live and learn? Not really I learned nothing except frustration today..

Absolutely.. as I said there is an expectation of privacy.. with the room rented it becomes thsame as your home.. at that moment, we weren't in a mood to debate the issue.
I put the info needed to know the place in another post.. waiting for approval..

While I would have left too,  I would also contact management or even corporate and get a refund. I don't give a fuck who that woman is.  My conversation behind closed doors with my boyfriend is none of her business.  If the topic was prostitution or Mary Kay  it's none of her business and I would demand a refund.

So, first of all I'm not defending the hotel and I really wish we could know where it was so we could all avoid it.

But, not sure you really have an expectation of privacy for a conversation in a hotel room that can be heard out in the hallway.  If someone walking by can hear it, then it isn't private, kind of by definition.  Standing there listening is rude, but I doubt if it is illegal, even for LE much less a hotel employee.

But still say the hotel sucks and I would really like to avoid it.  Kudos to the OP and his friend for handling it without a worse result, definitely a stressful experience.

When you rent a hotel room. I'm sure the hotels lawyer worded is some if they think that is something illegal going on in the hotel they can ask the people to leave.

Remember the post a month or so ago about how the Homeland asked hotel to keep an eye out for such activities

Questions,
How may guys did this provider see before exit9 showed up.
Was he the first guy or the  6th guy?
Has the hotel have this problem before.? So they may notice this pattern.

The hotel was slow and you have a bunch of guys walking in and out after an hour or so. Kinda would make the manger think something is up.

Sounds like to me she was luck LE didn't get into the middle of this mess.

OK, definitely not a lawyer, but there is a difference between what someone overhears standing outside your room (or home) and what they encounter when conducting a search of your room (or home).  And a big difference in what a private party like hotel management can do vs. what Govt / LE can do and then use to charge you with a crime.

And, note from your link, the *hotel* has a right to enter your room and decide whether something is going on that (in their opinion) violates a law.  Police can't search your room without a warrant and use the results of a search to charge you with a crime, unless you have been evicted, but the hotel can pretty much ask you to leave just because they think something is violating a law.  You can, of course, complain and/or sue the hotel, but I suspect part of the fine print that we all sign when we reserve the room or check in includes the right of the hotel to enter the room and to evict you for violations of policies, laws, health & safety, or any of the above, probably without any refund.

You have an expectation that your hotel room won't be searched by the police prior to the hotel evicting you.  You have no such expectation of the hotel management, and you have no expectation that hotel or police can't stand in the hallway and listen to what they can hear unaided in a public space outside your room.

At least that is how I think it works.  Still sucks that the hotel would do that.  I'd really like to know which hotel it was, or at least which town

From the standpoint that a good lesson might always be gained from a bad experience.. what lessons might come from my experience today
1. a small and sparsely occupied hotel may have an easy time tracking who goes in and out..
2. conversations, however harmless should be had as pillow talk. In the case today.. the bathroom was a few feet inside the door.. She was in the bathroom getting ready.. I was standing there having a conversation.. about her child.. about how SO's might regard our activity, about her car, about the weather. Frankly, as I think about it, pretty innocuous stuff. They had her pegged when she checked in at 10:45 AM and I arrived at 11 and walked into the elevator.. and went up.. They knew what room she was in and went to the hall and listened for anything they considered damming..
3. As a hobbyist, I never know where I will see a provider until she lets me know, typically the night before. I'm not going to cancel an appointment on that basis. So, it's up to the girl I suppose to book somewhere that is big enough to provide some cover by activity and size.

I will say that on my way to the appointment, I had a little time to kill. I went to another very busy and large hotel in the area. I have been there for trade shows, events and so on and it is always very busy. The place was deserted today. I noticed that.. so while the large place would have been safe.. it was still pretty empty. In a small place with elevators only 7 feet away from the main desk. it is a lot more difficult to blend in.

Factually Lamont I am literally a one and done. Very often I check in with my   "boyfriend".  Done  for the day  see my other   "boyfriend"  before I depart and then I go home.  There's no traffic at my door.  I really don't care about the legal disclaimer. There  has to be some boundaries and level of privacy at a hotel. Like I said,  I too would have left just because the woman was an asshole and clearly going to be a problem. I really would get a refund though.  Unless it was the motel 6 or some such shit.  I really can't imagine a high end hotel  pulling this shit.    I had a scare once many years ago in Braintree.  Shit ton of fuzz in the hotel. I just deemed it best to cancel my dates and mosey.

Some guys say acting like you belong there mitigates suspicion, I believe that's naive. Employees are trained to an extent "be aware" of suspicious activities. Hobbying is one and I'm thankful a blind eye is usually turned in most cases.

When I get the room number, I always ask for the elevators location. I want to know exactly where I'm going.

We need this as much as the room #. Ladies, when you arrive, please take a moment to visualize their location from the hotel entrance.

I'm as concerned about the impropriety of eavesdropping to but offer this as how we can be aware to jeep both parties safer. I'm also due most of us already are doing so. Just can't be complacent.

Btw, how many guys hit the elvator button for one floor then go up or down to the correct floor? Then send the elevator on its way to a different floor. I'll do that sometime. It not parsnoia, it's just easy.

However in a non-busy hotel the floor cameras might pick that up as suspicious if the crew is monitoring any of the feeds.

Which is a nice article completely consistent with the ideas that (a) police can't search your room without a warrant; (b) hotel management can in response to a violation of policy; (c) there is no reasonable expectation of privacy regarding a conversation overheard in the hallway or possibly even in the next room (and the example includes apartments as well as hotel rooms).  The article says (c) explicitly (page 272, 3rd paragraph).

Sorry, I still think the hotel's actions sucked, and I will avoid (to the extent I can) using them ever again, but the legal defense of privacy in your hotel room from the hotel desk clerk, either by sound or search, doesn't work.  But feel free to try it, I'd sincerely love to be proved wrong

I think rented apartments, eg Airbnb, could pose a problem in a city like Boston, compared to NYC or London (where rented apartments are typical). Hotels seem a far better bet.

Read some of the hotel tips and thought I'd share my own...

Hobbyists... I always arrive early, like up to 20 minutes early. I don't pretend to look like I know where I should be within the hotel. In my mind,  I'm there to meet a colleague/friend, and I don't know what room they're in. I hang in the lobby and play on my iPhone...because that's what people in hotels do when they're waiting. I might get up to look at the restaurant menu, ask what time they close. When I phone the provider to confirm that I'm at the hotel and get the room number, I don't immediately get up and go. I saunter to the elevator and go to a floor that has another common area, e.g. gym. If someone does ask (no one has ever asked me), my friend said he (HE) was just coming out of the gym so I figured I meet him there. From the gym level, I go up to the room.

Providers... Question... The hotel will have your ID and home address, right? Not a problem if you're from outside the area. If you're from the area, I guess it looks like you're doing a stay-cation. That can look odd, if you're doing multiple stay-cations? Maybe TMI for the forum

Her legal address on license happens not to be where she lives as she just moved.  She has taken down her Web site and turned off her hobby phone. Also turned off her FB page because she was nervous about that too. She just met me and gave me back my donation that I had given her. She is going seriously UTR right now. . She's petrified  because the hotel has personnel info...so she's shutting everything down. Another friend of hers got tagged yesterday in the same area. .supposedly the hotels are cooperating.

I feel terrible about the provider's situation. It shouldn't happen to any of us, especially providers, but the hobby is what it is and we will take our chances. However at this point the police, the hotel, you and the provider will know what town this happened in and probably 99% of the providers + hobbiests don't. Sharing the name of a town which I normally would never do on the board except by pm, which in this case is impractical would be in everyone's best interest.

I think you should out the town
