The subject of posting the same message more than once, on both the general board and a local board came up in a general discussion. For the sake of irony, I posted this reply to the comment across all the boards.
I add my desire to see people use the general discussion board for general topics more often.
Though it's not common on the Boston board, on some other local boards there are frequent, expansive discussions on general topics of broad interest. I find myself scanning all the boards to read these discussions. At first, I hesitated to take part in discussions on local boards outside my region. Yet, they're so general and universal that I eventually got involved in them.
I'm really only expressing a desire to have people present general topics on the general discussion board, so more people will get involved and the collaborative knowledge will be more easily accessible to everyone. It's no more than a humble request. Naturally, we should all post whatever we want, wherever we want. Like this discussion, for instance: quite general - and yet here we are in Boston.
Your post needs a bit of clarification. I just don't want new posters to get confused. I looked over the last 3 pages of threads on this board and I could find only two or three threads that MAY ALSO have been appropriate for posting on the General Discussion Board. The remainder of the threads were all local in nature and, as such, belong here on the Boston Discussion Board.
TER's Guidelines:
General Discussion Board The General Discussion Board is THE virtual hot spot to visit if you’re looking for some stimulating conversation with others who share you interests.
Regional Boards As the name implies, the Regionals are a great place to chat with people local to you. Are you looking for a special lady near home? Want to know what’s going on when the sun goes down? This is the place to find out – and share that kind of information. Please remember that this is not an area to post reviews.
IMHO -- I regularly read and occasionally post to the General board. However, there was a time when I only visited this board. I see nothing wrong with posting a general question here. If it creates more interaction among the local posters, what's wrong with that? I think your post, though well intentioned, may scare away posters. I say post whatever you want as long as it is related to the hobby, it is not insulting to another poster and it does not reveal personal information.
