BACK TO BOSTON FROM HOMETOWN!!

I've just returned to Boston after a week in a little town in upstate NY where my parents and quite a few old friends still live.  Had a wonderful time.

During the seven-hour drive, I got to thinking about the old versus the new - my family and friends there - and the new friends I've been making in my job here.

As they say, there's nothing like old friends.  But I really do enjoy meeting new people and making new friendships.  Maybe clients shouldn't become friends.  But I'm finding that I am developing some nice relationships with the men and women I have met at TER.

TER kind of gives me that small town feeling.  The men and women are well educated, open minded and courteous.  People seem to honestly care about each other and seem genuinely interested in each others' lives.  I have seen posts where people are able to open up and talk freely about their views and lives.  Sometimes people ask for advice and get many response. It is quite evident that many people on TER have known each other for quite a long time.  Instead of going to the local diner for coffee, we are jumping on line, with our coffee by our side, daily to catch-up on what is taking place and hear the news.

So I think I'm very lucky.  I have family and old friends that are less than a days' drive away, and many relationships developing here that are leading to GFs and BFs.  Not a bad life!

I wonder how other providers feel?  I suspect many of you who grew up within driving distance of Boston may feel lucky, too.  Does anyone else feel like TER is our small privileged community here in our big city of Boston?  Does that neighborly feeling ever cross anyones' mind?  Does anyone ever feel like they are writing or responding to a small local paper?  Could it be that TER, a place founded for business, has turned into something much more??  I am curious as to how other people feel about this.

I generally do Outcalls, but will be setting up an Incall location for this coming Wednesday(tomorrow) and Thursday, west of the city on RT. 128.  Many people have told me they just can't host.  So, I am looking forward to meeting a new friend or two this week.

Best to you all,

Katherine

Nice to have you back in the TER Boston village!

.. nose to toe across the Mass Ave Bridge would you require more or less "katherines" than you would need "smoots"??

...since Ms. Katherine is allegedly 5cms taller than the late Mr. Smoot (Class of '62)!

For those of you who don't happen to know this insider MIT legend:

When he was an undergraduate, some of his fellow students laid poor Smoot out on the bridge from MIT to Boston (incongrously then called the Harvard Bridge, and today usually called the Mass. Ave. Bridge).

It was then calculated that the length of the bridge equaled 364 Smoots.

Since Katherine Boston is a little taller than Mr. Smoot, the bridge equals only about 360 Katherines.

After graduation, Mr. Smoot went on to a distinguised career in measurement (not kidding) and recently retired from being Chairman of the American Standards Institute.

Anyone reading this Discussion Board who would prefer that the measurements continue to be published only in Smoots might be well advised to look elsewhere for engineering pleasure.

If I laid Katherine nose to toe across the Mass Ave Bridge would it require more or less "katherines" than you would need "smoots"??

Fewer 'katherines' than 'smoots' required, as she is taller than Oliver. See photo of Oliver Smoot at a recent reunion at MIT.

Technically, it is the Harvard Bridge (should be the MIT Bridge?).

In this photo taken in October 2008, Smoot inspects Harvard Bridge on Mass Ave across the Charles River Basin. His brother upstaged him by winning the Nobel Prize.

.... steer this thread in the direction of Star Trek! This would have created the longest thread in TER Boston history. I am picturing a vigorous and heated discussion between cod and kk, arguing the merits of who was the better captain.... Kirk or Picard. I will advocate Janeway.

Never thought of all of us in the TER Boston Discussion Board quite that way before, Katherine. Good description, very well put.

I know you don't very often offer Incalls - see they aren't featured on your website.

Your post + Codpeace's great picture + the others on your interesting website = another call from me momentarily, for an appointment tomorrow or Thursday.
