Not hailing from Boston or New England, I am curious to know people's thoughts on the matter of staying out by the airport area? Is it safe? Do you mind traveling out that way, etc? I am more or less asking because I like to know that when I'm traveling to an area that I'm safe, but figured I'd ask your opinions as well. Thanks in advance and looking forward to seeing some of new england.
It's safe and only a few minutes from Boston. However, you'll see more LE and security. And not that it's a big deal, but it's $3.00 every time you drive into Boston.
I confess that I have a personal interest in this discussion since I am hoping to see you during your visit. However, that said, I would caution you that some hotels are discribing themselves in advertisements as being in the "Airport Area" when actually they are several miles up the road in Revere. The traffic can be terrible up there and, since many of your guests will be driving, that is going to be an inconvenience for many. The hotels right at the Airport are closer to Boston but the traffic is still a hassle. My suggestion is that you shoot for one of the downtown hotels with public parking garages nearby. If you would like to PM me, I could offer further suggestions,
the area around Logan Airport is fine. I recall that there is a Hilton at Logan and the area around the hilton is fine.
as for convenience, i am another voice for saying that for me, the airport area is not convenient.
i thought you were gonna stay in the theater district. that is convenient for me though there are a few panhandlers hanging around that area. on the whole it is safe. there is a nice new W Hotel that opened in that area. that may be pricey for your interests.
also, it is more fun staying in the city so you can see the city.
Same boat here as well. It is a hassle to get up to Logan and honestly, it's much easier for anybody to really stay downtown. Be it the area around Fenway or Theatre District; just much easier for anybody in general.
Plus, seeing how discretion is always key, I second the notion of being in the city: a lot more people to "get lost in."
blending in is rarely an issue for me personally. it's visitors i get that have problems. both newbies and veterans alike can miss things. no matter the hotel if you just remember to do a few things like
1. don't hold your cell phone in front of your face while walking through the lobby looking lost - this makes security notice you and check cameras to see where you're going...
2. don't call the girl from the lobby....
3. sitting in the lobby waiting for a phone call for the room number is also not smart.
4. ask the girl where the elevators are before you get out of your car. again, it keeps you from looking lost.
the employees in the lobby are supposed to ask you if they can help you if you're looking confused, what will you say if they ask? it's easier to just keep from looking confused =)
honestly, if i see a visitor doing things that make him stick out like a sore thumb before seeing him, i'll reschedule the appointment for my own 'safety'.
you may think that it's not that obvious but think about how many girls are staying at the hotel you're at. how many guys do each girl see a day? how many guys is that looking lost in the lobby?perspective is everything sometimes =)
just my little opinion and just a few points off the top of my head.
