In the last month or so contacted several providers via email about booking an appointment within a few days of the email and did not receive a reply. Realize each provider is different, but is it typical not to get a reply?  The emails were polite, unoffensive and contained what I believed to be required screening info. Is second email and/or phone call appropriate or should one just move on?

If several providers had the same reaction, it suggests there was something about your info that caused them to worry, even if you're totally legit. It's a time of great paranoia, so I know lots of phone calls aren't being picked up and e-mails returned these days. You might want to try a phone call instead, but make sure to use a land line.
