In the Boston area, what is a good bank for a secret savings account? The goal is to never get any mail from the bank at home, nor to get any other communication that might give away the account's existence.

One friend told me he set up a secret account, and asked that all statements be paperless, but he still got an occasional piece of mail at home.

The first one is to bury your money is coffee cans in the backyard.
You'll never have to worry about bank statements or junk mail from a bank

Second is to use the same bank you have right now, go with the paperless statements.
But when you get occasional mail at home since it is from the same bank. No one will think twice about it.

But I will say I get lots of junk mail from other banks then the one I use.

A safe deposit box might do the trick. You might get a bill if you forget to pay and you have to actually go there to withdraw/deposit.

Sadly, I've worked in banking for more than 50 years. There is no place to hide. Coffee cans more safe.

Any occasional statements or communication (cardholder agreement, replacement card) will go to the P.O. box and you can do deposits in cash via GreenDot or your real banking account.

That would be an easy way to tuck away amounts and retrieve the cash from ATMs
(but research and find the best for your needs.  American Express prepaid only allows $2500 on the cards while Visa prepaid cards sometimes allow tens of thousands depending upon which one you choose).

I use a p.o. Box with my bank and have for seven or eight years.  It's never been a problem but I use a small local bank with only four or five branch offices.  I'm sure the bigger chains would have an issue with it...

Banks are impossible to deal with using a PO BOX they wont open an account without a physical address and cite the patriot act as there reason for asking.  then they still send you mail to your residential address even when you specify you residential address.  I havent tried any of online paperless banks but I assume that could work if you rented a box at a mail box place and give them the residential address of the mailbox and put your box number as your apartment number.

I'd recommend ING banking. I have it for a different purpose (sending money to relatives...helluva lot cheaper than Western Union), but I turned off paper statements and never get anything from them. I mean, maybe an annual statement for tax purposes, but it's really rare, certainly not enough to raise questions.

A few upsides - no minimums, an interest accruing checking account (not that it'll do you much good), and refunded ATM fees. I always hate trying to find the closest B of A when I'm on the road. I could just go to some off brand ATM and chalk up the $5 to the cost of playing, but I hate ATM fees on principle.

Part of the goal is to direct deposit a portion of my pay, so that's why I want a bank I can deposit it into.

You can direct deposit with a green dot prepaid card. Then just withdraw from any ATM. Only catch...there is always a catch right?? You need a p.o. box to have the card mailed to you. CVS or any drugstore will have the start up pack. May be worth looking into. In any case if you file taxes joint...be careful!!! Best of luck!!
