I realize that you are trying to show class, by not checking 1st, maybe that's gonna have to change?? Sorry he ripped u off. Hang in there, i think u realize, most of us guys are not like that. peace and be safe
If he did, have you contacted them to make sure that they are real, and also to warn them to give no more references?
Also, always, at least on the first date, duck into the bathroom and count the money. Any decent client will understand why you must do so and not take umbrage at it.
I'm not so sure that's good advice. What happened is certainly a shame but in the bathroom scenario the provider is now in a room confronting some mook who has stuffed newspaper clippings into an envelope--what else is he capable of? I'm thinking that if your reference protocol has delivered someone like this to your room you should chalk it up to experience (and improve your reference practices) rather than have a confrontation.
I'm just wondering what exactly you mean by "please check for references"
Do you mean ask the gentleman if he has references? Are you saying that there's a means to "check for" references that she should be using, besides asking the client? Or are you saying don't see clients without references?
I'd say for first time clients get employment info and full name (references if they have them) and call them at work! check that employment info! You're the only you you have, and you're irreplaceable! Don't let anyone squeak past your screening, no matter how they beg. if you feel comfortable seeing clients with references without getting employment info, then once you check their references make sure you have the client's full name, too.
then I'd say expect this to still happen to you once in a while despite your precautions because sometimes dudes just don't care what info you have on them, they're still gonna rip you off.
I'm not saying the provider who posted did not screen in the manner I described. I have no idea how she screened. To Sabina: It is totally disheartening when something like this happens. DO NOT take it personally. This happened to me one time despite screening and references. I had warning signs, but didn't see them until after the session, when he robbed me. He kept telling me how much money I must be making, theorizing on my expensive rent at my luxury apartment and how much my hair and nails must cost. I told him I was out of work and needed to make ends meet, but he still kept going on about how rich I must be (looking back he was obviously making excuses for what he was about to do). My thief was going to rob me no matter who I was and what I said. I could have told him I was supporting 12 children and he would have kept up his attempts to justify his behavior. No doubt your thief has done the same. He has made excuses to justify his unjustifiable behavior. But, whatever weak excuses to himself, he's made the black mark on his life. He has to live with himself knowing he's been a thief to a woman who was sweet to him and treated him like a boyfriend. However he tries to excuse himself, he knows he sucks. You, however, were hurt and had the decency to warn others to keep them from harm! Well done!
Sorry that this happened to you. I definitely recommend calling his references back and letting them know what happened. We had someone with a similar sounding name call us a few weeks ago. He had no references, or membership with any screening services, so we told him he'd have to pay in advance by credit card. He hung up on us at that point. No form of screening is fool proof, but it does help the majority of the time. It just really sucks when that one slips by and ruins it for everyone.
