From my best understanding, reading and discussion with "informed" people there are several things to look at:
Are there open spots of skin or abrasions anywhere on your "Gent" or in the ladies mouth?
Chances seem to be less for the gentleman, but some studies show that BBBJ was not the only activity in cases where HIV transmission was attributed.
Ladies that "TC" are at greater risk, however there is information to suggest that stomach acids destroy things prior to absorption into the blood. That is to assume it was not absorped into a opening in the mouth.

Now I cannot back this up with any references, so take it as you will. Some of it may be "Horse Pucky" But it would seem to me that any chance of transmission of bodily fluids adds to your risk. Abstinance is the only sure fire way of protecting yourself.

So if your are concerned, stay away. If you enjoy the Hobby and are willing to assume the risks involved you can certainly mitigate your exposures by avoiding BBBJ, DATY and other exposed activities. To each their own.

A Boston area provider recently mentioned to me that in her doctor's opinion, the risk of getting HIV from BBBJ is extremely insignificant to her and the hobbyists who see her.  I don't know whether you can catch other STDs from BBBJ.  I have had clean bill of health in this regard after frequenting local providers over the last many years.  May be they all know what they are doing or I am just one lucky guy.
