When I think of Sturbridge I think of James Taylor.  A lot of hippie chicks out there.  Hippie chicks can be hot.

Josulli is correct, you mean Stockbridge. I also believe you are thinking of Arlo Guthrie and not James Taylor. Guthrie sang about Alice's Restaurant and getting arrested in Stockbridge. The song was recorded in the late 60's and is a classic which is played by rock radio stations every Thanksgiving.

A bit of useless trivia from an old hippie.

They made a movie about it too...

More useless trivia for you.

The movie was shot in the Stockbridge area in October,  1968....
From yet another really old Hippie. .

Actually, James Taylor makes reference to Stockbridge in his song Sweet Baby James. "The first of December was covered with snow....and so was the turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston. "

I remember listening  to Alice's Restaurant every Thanksgiving with my folks. New England is great for places like that with off the beaten path stories and fun little places. It is so rich with culture and history that one can never really get enough of it and will always return for more.

I think that quite a few of those hippies later bore many a hippie child or hipster in denial child themselves and luckily for many of us they passed on all the great stories, music and books they loved so very much.

Thank you for posting this! I just had the best little warm memory :-)

Okay back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Grace

P.s. One of my favorites growing up which came out before I was born was "Pleas come to Boston for the springtime" Dave Lggins
