Mind you this is coming from an independent, but, 60 minutes is 60 minutes.  I never back to back appts, I usually have a couple of hours to unwind and prepare for the next!

If you walk in & it only takes a few minutes, I will try to make sure you leave with another pop!

Hi!
Today I showed up for an appointment with a well-regarded agency, and after a leisurely first cup, the lady told me she was running late and trying to catch up, so she was going to "need" to short me on time about 15 minutes.
15 minutes is a quarter of an hour; when I suggested that she (and later, when I spoke to the agency) credit me with 50 toward my next appointment, the dispatcher threw a fit and said that there's never a guarantee any client is going to get exactly the full hour, and that's the gamble all clients take.
In this economy, I don't think that agency is going to be able to thrive with that lack of customer service. (If it was just 5 minutes, I wouldn't care, but, well, 15 can be the difference between one cup and two, y'know?)

Am I wrong?

I would bet that you would be on every Black List in the country in a matter of minutes.

Why is it that stealing time is okay, but money is a whole other story?

Since we are only paying for "time" shouldn't any lady who shorts "time" be considered a rip-off of sorts?

Also, why is it perfectly okay to leave me sitting in a parking lot waiting for the lady to be ready, sometimes for a significant amount of time, but if I am late even a minute or two for legitimate reasons (traffic/bad directions) I can have my appointment cancelled and labeled a "no show"?

Why is there such a double standard?

Curious to hear the responses.

BTW - Sorry about the alias, but all the good Devil's Advocate options were already taken.

Good points, all!

Still, I plan on dressing with ten minutes left just to give the woman a chance to do whatever she has to do to get ready in case somebody is coming right behind me. That's agency life. Indys are usually more flexible with a few minutes here and there, so if somebody wants all sixty minutes, it's probably more realistic to go Indy and pay a few more bucks.

I've never worked for an agency. My hour, as an Indy, starts after you shower.

That being said I'm assuming, from talking with agency ladies, that this isn't up to them.
Before you hop into "I'm defending this type of service" mode...I am not.

What I do want to know is if you contacted the agency after you left to see if they were willing to do the next right thing. Talking to the booker won't get you far since it isn't up to them or the lady you saw to rectify it (I said rectum...LOL). I would suggest, that if you haven't already, contact them and ask to speak to someone who makes those decisions. My experience is, from reading the boards and talking with agency owners, that they will make it right for you because they want a repeat client.

Just my .33 cents

Do not worry about it.  Give her another chance. May be you should book 2-3 hours to get all the time you need with her.

That way both of you go happy.

I agree that economy is not in best shape, but considering how europe and japan is doing with their old populations, dying people and high taxes, we are much better off.

I have always known 1hr to be 60 minutes and seems to drag out to more than 60 many times. Indies are more flexable and schedule time between clients to allow for overages and with new clients, a bit of getting to know one another.
I expect to be paid for my time and you expect to get the agreed time, all sounds fair to me.

I guess shit happens sometimes, sorry for your difficulties. May be best to just move on live and learn.

60 minutes is 60 minutes. Of course, with an agency, one should be ready to leave at 59'59" usually

But I find these kinds of posts rather silly. I know it feels good to vent and get validation from other people. But it is rather useless because you don't name the agency. I suppose you want to keep using them so don't want to burn the bridge. And posting under an alias has its own baggage.

You may need to have another surgery on your brain...

I didn't say he posted with an alias. I suggested he should have named the agency, but probably didn't as he wanted to continue using them. I also pointed out that if he posted the agency name under and alias that would have it's own baggage.

I appreciate everyone's empathy, especially those of the independent ladies. Like I said, if it had been only 5 minutes or so, of course I would have understood -- there are no-show guys out there, so when the bookings are close together, it's up to all of us to try to be on time.

I didn't name the agency because it was the first time this had happened with this agency (although it has happened, in my experience, with others as well). I am hoping that they read this exchange of posts and maybe, like a "Dear Abby" letter, they and others understand that they stand to lose some clients by not at least acknowledging the time shortfall with an offer of some of the fee back. (By the way, when I mentioned a 50 refund, that was in no way equivalent to 1/4 of the agency hourly fee, so I wasn't even suggesting a price-per-minute fee structure, which would be insulting to hobbyist, provider, and agency as well.)

This is exactly one of the reasons I love being independent.  I hate back to back appointments, geez I have to clean and catch my breath.  I leave at a minimum 2 hours in between to eat and clean up etc...

To create the right atmosphere is important, and entering one appointment, still breathing heavy from the last one doesn't do it for me, lol.

You'll generally get better service with an independent girl
