I am considering joining one of the client verification services and I want to avoid any potential ripoffs. Are there services that are preferred by clients/ladies?  Best value? most respected?

Hands down the BEST for scouting client info...  and for some reason girls outside of nyc dont seem to use it that much... Best of all, its free (with a cap) and unlimited searches for like 14.95 or something like that. I cant imagine life without it.... and no i dont work for them.
