When you hit the edit button, simply retype "please delete post" in the subject line. Then write your post again.

The other thing you can do is to reply to your own post. That way they both stay active.

I am fortunate enough to be unmoderated.
Tonight I post a reply and it is on the Board in seconds.  I  realize I have a spelling mistake within a minute
Hit edit button , fix, and send.
My reply is now gone.

Anyone know what happens behind the mysterious curtain that is TER?

.....it goes into that big black hole for an undetermined length of time.  If your edit was a simple spelling error, I am sure your post will return shortly.  If you made an edit that was negative or insulting or against the "rules", it probably will not see the light of day again.

spell checker is right, but some have found away around the delay.  You can delete your post and then repost a corrected post.

This method is also used by providers to keep their ads on the top of the page.

Why does an unmoderated user, who deletes a post and re-posts, make any work for the Mod?  But more importantly, why are users trusted enough to be unmoderated for an initial post but not to edit/correct that post.  People don't edit themselves in order to violate the rules.  Anything over the line that they could say in an edit, they could have said in the original post.  Perhaps I'm slow today, but this makes no sense.

This is the type of thing that would never be caught by a spell checker, but that I often see when I reread my posts.  OK, so I reread my posts.  And sometimes a better way of expressing the idea occurs to me 5 minutes after I posted.  Why shouldn't I be able to edit for this reason if I'm unmoderated?  If it takes an hour or three (in my experience) for the post to reappear, some edits are not worth it.  The poster has to make a judgement that is unnecessary.

concerned (and believe me, it's not that big of a deal and I was mostly joking), it does increase the load.

I just typed out a long explanation of how and then realized that it looked too much like I was bitching about it, so you'll just have to take my word about it.  LOL

I'm not 100% sure but I think that you can only do that within the first 4 hours after you put up a post since I think  the edit feature goes away after 4 hours.

is illegal in 49 out of 50 states and most of the territories.  LOL

If you catch us logged in, the edit will usually post within a few minutes. But if not, you will have to wait until one of us logs in again.

It's better to just proofread.
