I'm trying to figure out what stuff people do. Is there anything traditional that's cool to attend? Where can you watch the marathon from and is it worth fighting the crowds?
OR
Does everyone just hit the bars earlier than usual since it's a MASS holiday? ;)

I'm trying to get out of the house so lets get going with some good suggestions please!

After a sox game in 07 I went to a biker marathon.
It was ok some festivities food drink but mostly
bars.It was ok to watch but there wasn't anything
more to do but dine and check out a lounge. It was my first time at Cheers on 75 Chestnut
where one guy who lost the race came in to
have a brew.

I must say it isn't worth the crowd .
But I say go check that place out I love it
there. Just like the show!

I would try to hit any of the bars near the finish line. They have Marathon parties all day long, The Pour House services breakfast so you can start there and move to other bars.

Or you have your own Private Marathon ! ! ! !

Me thinks that would be a best way to spend the day.

Foody hit it on the head. THIS is where it all started, and is a great way to start Patriots Day.

If you can get tickets and like the red sox, going to the game, then walking to Kenmore to watch the marathon is a great take.

Don't discount the Marathon, it can be heartwarming and motivational to watch. You can't help but feel good for what these people are accomplishing, and it is a good reminder that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. Try to watch it live, if only for an hour or so!
