From a seasonal perspective things are not as slow in August as they used to be.  A lot of companies now do sales, user group or training meetings in July or August here in Boston or in other northern climates rather than doing them in the winter time at pricier tropical climates.

There is a convention starting today at the Hynes with an estimated 10,000 attendees. Something that big will always put a major dent in hotel availability...

Well it depends which week youre talking about just this week alone has two decent size conferences at the bcec and the hynes convention center not including the smaller ones at hotels there are plenty of buisness travelers and tourists running around there are parents bringing their kids to look at colleges you think its bad now wait till october when people from all over the world come to new england for the folliage and the redsox making it to the playoffs wlth the bruins and the celtics playing at home then youll be scrambling for a room at the ymca

Been trying to find a room for a few weeks from now and the only thing i can find affordable is at the airport.  Only 5 minutes into the city, but still, lots of hotels are booked.

It is considered very underserved, but in about five years this should change as a lot of hotels are planned, especially around the Convention Center in the Seaport and South Boston area.

Until then, I suggest the many fine hotels that ring Boston along Rt 128/I-95.  I almost never have a problem with them and if you use Priceline, you get pretty good deals.

As a hobbyist I love how convenient it is to get to them and not having to pay for parking is a plus.

Not that they're the only thing that ever happens in town, but it's probably worth checking this calendar out.  As someone pointed out, a 10,000 attendee conference runs through tomorrow.
