This isn't so Boston specific, but I have a stripper blog I still write (I do the occasional strip club tour or amateur night) and I reached out to a woman asking if she minded being on my blog roll. Turns out she minds.

I reached out to her because I'm planning to do private pole dancing/exotic dancing lessons out of my residence within a year and use my stripping experience to be a fitness instructor.

The woman I wanted to add was found on a google images search for "playground pole dancing" because I find it funny to work poles at places such as kiddie playgrounds or, say Cheers bar. She mainly does other kinds of fitness instruction, but pole "acrobatics" is one of them.

Her curt reply to my email was "please don't add me to your blog roll, I teach ACROBATIC pole fitness, NOT STRIPPER pole fitness."

Fuck that. It'd be one thing if she was judging what I do (she was without directly saying it) but it's another thing she feels this huge need to disassociate with strippers, I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds stripper pole dancing FAR more aesthetically pleasing than that awkward Indian/Chinese acrobatic kind. She's a snobby yuppie! RAWR

That being said. She could have been nice about it. It appears these instructors are trying to ease women's minds about the activity and make it as light-hearted and fun as possible. And not pushing any uncomfortable association with the larger group of potential clients...  Heck there are still alot of women out there that uncomfortable with receivng oral stimultaion... So it may be daunting to get a number of suburban ladies in the door to practice moves usually preformed in strip clubs....

And in the end the instructor is mostly concerned with maxing out her schedule... Maybe it would have been better for her to post with your blog site... But she made a call that it would be counter to her plans....

But again she could have been far more gracious about it.

You didn't provide ALL the details (and I haven't seen your blog), but

(1) you were nice enough to ask first and
(2) she was nice enough to reply.

It's so hard to "hear" the tone of an email (or forum post) to know if she was saying:

A. "please don't add me to your blog roll, I teach ACROBATIC pole fitness, NOT STRIPPER pole fitness ... and you totally disgust me and make me want to puke and I hope you go flying off your pole and land on your head."

OR

B. "please don't add me to your blog roll, I teach ACROBATIC pole fitness, NOT STRIPPER pole fitness ... and, although it's a lot of fun and I've even done some of those moves [back when I was a stripper but my husband doesn't know about that], I have a different client base and want to emphasize a strictly acrobatic approach at this time. Good luck!"

You can assume A and make yourself sick and angry or assume B and just smile and move on.

I think you may have assumed to much.

How would you answer an email asking you if you were a common streetwalker ???

You would be pretty pissed of, so I'm sure you would not be nice in your answer.

Is a fact of life.

People are judgmental.  Whether it deals with the hobby, politics, or just ordinary day in and day out items people are making judgments.

Sometimes they are quiet, but often they let themselves be known.  You have to have a mindset that your opinions and self awareness are sufficient and let others' thoughts and opinions be secondary.

Thanks guys, especially Camille! Yes I'm off school now with just one online class, but I don't have excessive idle time, though it's more than usual. Work's busy, some personal agenda stuff's busy, school's not, so doing lotsa pleasure reading, shopping etc. I wish my darn figure skating team season was going and I didn't have to wait til September but Camille, I think now's the time I will get my side business venture of doing my own pole dancing/exotic dancing classes at home.

It's good to consider how women will react to me WAY BEFORE launching a pole dancing business of my own. I plan to play it as "I'm a former exotic dancer" than "I'm a CURRENT escort" And I plan to make it very intimate and provocative within the gauge of each woman's sexy and naughty side, but a goal will be for the women to tap into their sexuality and self confidence so they can recycle the moves I teach them at home in the bedroom! not just pole but chair-dancing/lap-dancing since most women don't have poles at home! Doesn't go well with the party hostess "let me give you the grand tour" scenarios :)

Anyhow, my point is I do a lot of reading, writing, wandering around Back Bay, but something more physical will help, my gym membership freeze just ended today so clearly I will be hitting spinning or something tomorrow!

We all know what my first fave physical hobby is before figure skating, exotic dancing and other workouts :)
