My girlfriend (the one pictured in my photo gallery) offers her services in NYC and comes back every time with a purse full of cash bursting at the seams. She barely lifts a finger to attract more qualified clients than she needs. She may do the odd appointment while she is here, but totally scoffs at working in Boston.
On the other hand, I have to work pretty hard qualifying the small handful of new friends that I meet in a given month. What is the explanation? I find it hard to believe there is a significant difference in supply and demand between the two cities.
Could it be that there is simply: 1. More clients in NYC than Boston (adjusted for population) and/or 2. Less providers in NYC than Boston (adjusted for population)
Any ideas? Other factors? I'd like to hear from providers who have something to say.
Bigger city, Wall Street, more wealthy guys, ex-governor of New York, twice as many Pro baseball and basketball teams. The city that never sleeps. You'll have appointments 24/7 and your purse will be "bursting at the seams" too.
What's not to like.
Boston is too reserve, less fashionable and glittery.
Being a homer, I like Boston just fine the way it is.
NYC is bigger, more populated and more of a business hub than Boston is. If you look in the "new reviews" section of this board the city of New York has just under 300 new reviews for the last two weeks while Boston has just under 100.
Is it better? Only if it's better for you. NYC is busier but it's important to remember that both the good AND bad parts of the job are amplified in a busier location. Also, you are comparing the two cities but are you also comparing you and your friend on all levels? Does she market herself the same way that you do? Do you both devote the same amount of time to the endeavor? Does she have reviews?
There are many things to consider aside from geography and basic differences in demographics.
I said "adjusted for population" in my post. NYC is about 14 times the population of Boston. Are you suggesting there are just not enough providers? Supply always goes where demand is, especially in a highly profitable easy to start businesses like this. Doesn't it?
Supply does NOT always go where demand is, especially not in the sex business. Not every woman wants to escort in a big city. Not every woman wants to see the same volume of clients or deal with higher hotel and the over-all higher cost of doing business that exists in busier metropolitan areas...and then again some do! What you do for a living is a very personal thing and your decisions should be based on what works for you. As others have suggested the best way to find out may well be to go to NYC and give it a try. It may work for you and it may not. Only you can decide.
