I booked in advance per your request. You accepted. Is it OK for you to cancel on me after you confirmed our date when hobbyist that you decided to date choose to cancel?
Because personally, it'd cost me the room $200, the sitter $200-300 (if they're feeling bitchy that day), gas/travel another 50-100, meals and cab, another 50-100.
Yes, it sucks, but it is okay when it doesn't make sense to travel. She's throwing away money.
You can't expect a girl to keep announced dates if she's experiencing a number of cancellations.
When touring Boston or NYC during the spring and summer seasons a provider is already $1k-$1500 in the hole, look at hotel rates in the city currently. A provider has to work to justify those costs and then profit.
So yeah, I think its okay to cancel with reasonable notice.
But I also think its very important that a girl make it up on the back end. If I have to reschedule a city because the bottom of a tour drops out before I arrive I offer a discounted rate *or* a substantial increase in time as encouragement to book again when I'm certain I will come. Never had anyone not take me up on that or remain fussy about the originally canceled trip so I'm inclined to believe that most hobbyists "get it" and don't want a provider to be stupid about things or have the expectation that she should take losses in the name of keeping all announced tour dates.
Everyone wants their time and interest to be respected but I think a little bit of flexibility and understanding under reasonable circumstances go a long way.
From the guy's perspective I can appreciate that "let-down" feeling if a provider who you were really looking forward to seeing suddenly cancels. But I'm sure we all understand the financial need to do so. Your proposal of rate or time adjustment for a future visit I'm sure would be well received by most.

We as hobbyist's as well as humans have to remember "shit happens" in life, and things do not always work out the way we want even with the best of planning, and we do have to be mindful of the business aspect of our hobby. IMHO It happens to all of us sooner or later.
If they can not make it P they can not afford to P.
You see many posts about a provider that is not a good business person. This one seems to have been a good business person if not a good sales person. Hopefully she will be back and as others have mentioned reach out with a means to make up for your disappointment
