Satellite Radio...

I love Felger and Mazzeroti. Two of my favorite former writers, and are even better on the radio.

No contest--Sports Hub over the mid-day and afternoon WEEI shows. Way more entertaining. You can have both of the morning shows.

The SportsHub is newer and fresher, and it shows.  WEEI has been resting on its laurels for way too long - it has gotten lazy and arrogant.  The Big Show and Dennis and Callahan are the main culprits - can't stand either show.  I don;t listen to either in the morning (prefer NPR news), but the rest of the day I now dial into the SportsHub.

Between the arrogant hosts baiting the callers or the moronic callers themselves, I stick with my Sirius subscription.  Any sports news I need comes from the web.

I'll switch back and forth, depending on the topics and hosts.

My opinions:

Planet Mikey is one of my favorites, but if there is a celts game on, I will go to "DA" on sportshub. He is growing on me.

I can only take so much of the Big Show, these days. They need a fresher approach. The sophmoric stuff gets annoying. It annoys me to hear people on the show, and callers, calling each other "brotha".  I like Deossie but not Smerlas. Framingham Lou is the best thing to hit Boston sports radio in years. Pete Shepard bugs me, I don't know why. I also like Butchy Stearns and hope he gets his own show on either station.

Mornings: As much as I have a love/hate relationship with Dennis and Callahan, I really don't like the guys on Sportshub in the morning. I don't mind political talk, but Callahan's a bit excessive with his attitude. I am a republican, but he is too far right.

mid-day - I like Dale and Holley, but Tanguay and Zolak are growing on me.

Bottom line is that Sportshub seems legit to me, and probably the first competitor to give Weei a run for their money. I think they will both survive and thrive in the market. As Sportshub eats at the eei ratings, there will be changes down the road. Not saying they take over, but it will definitely have an effect on the historical superiority of eei.

Now, if Sportshub could only get Mike and Mike in the morning, I'd be in heaven. I miss them!

I wish SportsHub was better in the AM, but they are too sophmoric.

I will occasionally listen to D&C if they are speaking with Brady, Boomer, etc.  They do have some excellent guests.

Smerlas & Pete add exactly nothing to the afternoon show.  More and more I'm listening to Sportshub.

Mike Adams is a favorite so I generally will listen to him if I'm driving anywhere at night.  I love his impersonations, particularly of  Joe Castiglione.

Yes I agree with you.Jerry Callahan lives in my town plus he coaches his son,s little league team. The funny/ironic thing is that he so ultra conservative but sends one of his children to Phillips Andover Academy.PA is quite a liberal thinking institute.I was at a tailgate party at the Exeter/Andover game and he came over.I had to leave becuase I did not want to throw up listeneing to his political shit

After two years of lurking, this is the topic to finally make me post!

I *LOVE* The Sports Hub.  I have been so sick and tired of the same old boring, repetitive crap on WEEI for so long that I was thrilled just to have some alternative sports station in town.

The ESPN Radio affiliate never really had it together, and neither did the Sporting News Radio station from a few years back. But The Sports Hub has their act together.

Scott Zolak and Gary Tangay are quite good, although I would love to know what Dale Arnold and Michael Holley could do on the station that supports the two teams that each are most closely associated with.

Felger and Massarotti are just brilliant.  I can't compliment them enough.  They are everything WEEI is not.  No yelling, no long-winded political rants.  No tired comedy routines by guys that have never been funny in the first place. Instead, we get two strong-willed, intense and well informed personalities that know the score and bring up insightful ideas.

I'm confident that Toucher and Rich's morning program is just a stopgap, since they were obviously never intended to be on sports radio.  They worked better or poor, old WBCN of blesses memory. 89.5 will surely find someone to bring in that can rattle the cages of WEEI's morning right wing talk radio program known as Dennis and Callahan.

While I'm sure that Gerry Callahan's political rantings stir up enough people to keep them listening and yelling at the radio, the notion of a viable alternative that is fun, funny and on target for the Boston sports market is primed to take that annoying loudmouth down and steal at least 51% of his ratings.  Relying on upsetting people as a way of maintaining ratings only works when there isn't another quality choice.  I'm sure that with the CBS money that is backing The Sports Hub, they'll find the right person.

Now, I don't have any hard facts to back this up, but I'm hoping for Bill Simmons.  He doesn't want to stay in L.A. forever, and he hates Callahan and WEEI more than any of us combined.  After listening to his podcasts, I think he'd be great.  In fact, me might even be able to pull a national draw to the show.

Love Dale and Holley mid days on WEEI. The big show usually turns into a shouting match and thats when I turn it off.

Great poll.  I only listen to radio driving to and from work.  I love Toucher and Rich in the morning, and not just because I can't take the D&C right-wing crap - these guys are truly funny.  Then I listen to the Big Show on EEI on the ride home, mostly for the Whiner Line.  Driving home later, it's a coin flip between Mikey on EEI and DA on 98.5 - really depends on what they're talking about.  No one is funnier thatn Mikey, but DA is really appealing.
