Okay I wanted to shorten this would people go on a dinner cruise or be willing to meet at a resturant?

Also, is more a lunch meeting more satisfactory or evening meeting?

All responses are welcomed!

I don’t think you need an open bar (not a big drinker) the rest of the idea sounds great  and Saturday night is better for me

Cruise sounds good, weekends evenings are best.  But for the spouse factor, a weekday lunch may be more appropriate.....keep posting to let us know whats up.

It will never happen here. Remember.. this is New England ?  Get togethers have been attempted before and it's always the same. A big no event ! :(

For now, we just need to figure yays or nays on the boat or the resturant. If more people would put in their input on this thread, we both would be very grateful :) Again, ALL are encouraged to respond to this thread, and also feel free to input ideas. As time goes on, and we are sure about an exact locaton, I will promise to post asap :)

Thanks for your help.

This topic came up several months ago on another board, and -- as someone who has actually organized several such parties -- I threw in my two cents...  I have attached a link to that thread.

I suspect you'll get very different responses concerning times.  Many of the the married guys will have difficulty with weekend evenings.  They will be more likely to be able to sneak out for a few hours on a weekday evening.  Single guys will have a far easier time getting free.  They may prefer weekends, though, simply because it avoids any possible work entanglements.  Mid-day is hard unless you have a large critical mass in one location, because most people cannot afford both a two-way commute and a few hours in the middle of the day.

We found that late afternoon/early evening on a weekday was the best compromise.  We would nominally go from 4-8 pm or 5-9 pm.  This gave guys who had to run home a chance to pop in for a while after work.  The guys who could easily get out for the evening would typically come later and stay late (often well past the nominal end of the party).

I would also vote for a restaurant over a cruise.  With a cruise, you must commit to stay for the duration (unless you're a damn good swimmer), whereas you can pop in and out of a restaurant at will.  This will allow guys (and ladies) with constraints the opportunity to make an appearance, even if they can't stay for the whole thing...

Good luck!

Have fun, MG

Think restaurant/bar may be better for initial get together, all goes well (response), do the boat thing.

Especially to you, MG for reposting your thoughts on this subject :)

I believe we are going to nix the idea of a cruise (maybe for a later time), and fully concentrate on a resturant/bar type setting. Now, here comes the fun part: Areas of having the function. I am thinking of either the North End? Boston Proper? Somewhere off of 128 (Burlington/Waltham??) Any suggestions would be great. Just for now, an area would be great, and I will be doing further research into what type of resturants are in that location.
Again, feel free to respond back to here or at: [email protected]

Thanks!

The Burlington/Waltham 128 corridor always turned out to be the grand compromise for us.  Excellent access from the west and north, and easy parking for a quick in/out...   :-)

Have fun, MG

Burlington sounds good.  Are the girls coming out to play or will it be a sausage fest?

A party with Providers and clients? I'm sure you guys will have a lot of laughs, But, do you think any providers will show up for a "FUN" event if they are not being compensated?? This is their work. Not their fun and pleasure. I doubt any provider would want to hang out with clients having cocktails and small talk while not being compensated. Like they want to see you guys on their time??

One in Los Angeles, the other was just recently in Baltimore. (Check recent posting on DC board.) The need for us ladies to network is high. For those providers that exchange references it is nice to put a face with the voice or e-mail that they correspond with. Since I don't do that, I like to talk to people and since I have so many PM pals across the country, I love meeting my pen pal friends. Frankly the business that I subsequently made after one of these shindigs was phenomenal, and the clients that came became good friends. Some of us aren't into this just for the money ya know. I plan on doing these in Los Angeles every other month or so. Part of the reason why I got a larger beachfront apt. is just so that I can entertain. I am half Italian and love to cook. I can't possibly cook just for one person, I don't know how. At home I love to cook for parties, set the mood, and be the hostess. Forgive me for wanting to crash your party; I just want to get down!

And some ladies do actually enjoy their clients!  It's really no different from my consulting business.  I charge clients when I work, but I would go to a cocktail party and network for free...

Have fun, MG

This is just a gathering! A Greet and Meet. This is NOT going to be a sausage fest. This is NOT going to be an orgy. There are a few of us who just want to meet w/other ladies and gents, and talk, have some drinks, good conversation. Whatever happens outside our meet and greet, is between lady and the gentleman. We don't want to know about it, for liability reasons. We are a friendly group of people here in Boston (including NetMichelle lol), and this is NOT a orgy event here!!. Just a casual meeting with friends.

Thanks!

no..it would be fun..however, many of us do have lives and careers outside the biz and I myself, however tempted to if it were in another part of the country somewhere could not venture in a public forum like that..to run into my neighbor, biz associate, relative. and for the gents..their neice, daughter, neighbor, secretary, boss? double eekkk!! ..eekkk! For some ladies, there may be no risk however..but it IS a small world...trust me...Have fun however to those with nothing to lose! I can see how the gents would enjoy it but I don't believe that the lack of overwhelming response from the ladies is that we don't like to mingle..just some of us are more one-on-one styled for discretion purposes...

There are a group of us ladies and gents who have been wanting to do a get together for some years, but nothing ever panned out. If yoiu go on TBD, they have gatherings all the time (through out the states), also-a good friend of mine, just had hers in Ohio, w/some of the TBD members, and I heard it was great :) This will be a casual gathering, drinks, food, conversation. That is it! What anyone does outside of the resturant is their own business, and I dont'want or need to know such affairs. You are welcome to come, if not, I did extend the invite.

A couple of small "satellite" get togethers first in our respective areas, then eventually have a bigger on in the Boston area. We could do a North Shore/NH meeting, a MetroWest meeting and a South Shore/Cape/RI meeting.

What does everyone think of that?
