Marketing Tip #2

Well since we are on marketing tips today can we discuss provider websites using Flash exclusively? For me personally I can't see Flash on my mobile device so those websites are useless. In case providers don't know, mobile web browsing is skyrocketing and unfortunately devices such as the iPhone can't see your site.

As a web designer and search optimization professional I can't tell you how much trouble Flash causes a business site. Yes it looks great but you are almost invisible to search engines and completely invisible to many mobile device users and trust me, me are going to look you up on their phone rather than the family or work pc.

The best use of flash is to mix it with real webpages and photos if you insist on using it. It does look great when it works. Just be sure to tell whoever is building your site you want it to also be have a non flash version.

Cheers!

When my webmistress gets back from vaca next week I will ask her if there is a "non flash" version being it might be quite costly for me to redo the site btu great advice...thanks whoever you are:)

I've always personally designed AllyMoore.com in order to maintain creative control.

Over six versions, I've alternated between mobile-accessible html-only and flash designs.
The simplicity and accessibility of html is favorable  but I've always found Flash so attractive.
Also I've enjoyed the comfort of knowing that once the SWF is removed from my domain the version is truly gone as apposed to the html versions of my site which have been permanently archived in the Wayback Machine (which I will have to manually pull once I am no longer actively providing).

I think that so long as a provider's advertisements are thorough in conjunction with an accurate and detailed TER profile she should represent herself with whichever design she will enjoy owning and viewing herself.

I haven't had any complaints in quite sometime, though I will still probably get around to creating a single fact page for mobile users at some point soon.

Thank you for the thoughts- this is something important for each provider to be aware of, discuss and consider with her webmaster.
