...But seriously....

One of the best places to go is place called the "No-Name" restaurant on the waterfront, near the World Trade Center.

http://boston.citysearch.com/profile/4770704/

Has very good food.

The other choice would be Legal Seafood.

Thanks!  For some reason, I thought the No Name Restaurant no longer existed

Stop!  You are making me drool!  I haven't been home in soooo long, I can't wait to get some good seafood.  The seafood on the west coast can't even compare.

Please tell me Kelly's is still there...that little walk-up on Revere Beach with the best take-out fish and chips ever. And Kimball's Ice Cream?  Nothing like that out here either - just the chains, like Ben & Jerry's and Haagen Dazs.  :-P

Oh, the childhood memories...  LOL!  I can't wait to get there!

Don't get me wrong, No name is a great lunch place but if your looking to go to one place, I wouldn't waste it there.

My favorite downtown is Skipjacks in the back bay. A little pricey but it won't break the bank. They do wonderful unique things with the seafood.

Ex. Ginger fried calamari, Blackened fish (Skipjack style with their own seasoning).

I used to take customers there and they raved.

If you like the cheap eats and have a car, go to the Causeway in Gloucester. Google it. HUGE Portions, Not greasy, Awesome flavor but the place is small, busy and not much to look at.

Wow!  I have been gone a while.  I recall it being just homemade ice cream, dirt lots, cow statues and lines an hour long.

They have minature golf, a driving range, food, a store, etc..

It is more of a destination.

But the size of the ice cream sundeas and the "kimball's special" is still just as large.   Just the prices have gone up.

..And has grown to multiple outlets.   There is even one in a furniture Store (remember Jordan's Furniture?) in Natick on top of a hill!

And I agree with you on ice cream places on the west coast.   There are no one-off ice cream places out there, and the stuff simply cannot compare to New England ice cream from whatever place you think is best!

Call me unoriginal, but you cannot go wrong with Legal Seafoods.  There is a very nice location in the Prudential Center.

So many places, but try Neptunes Oyster

Second on Neptune's Oyster:

Also, I'd throw in B&G Oysters not just because it's good, run by one of the most famous/best chefs in Boston, but it's also CLASS:

Legal Seafood? Really? It's a safe bet, but nowhere near the above two.

If you want sushi, Fugakyu in Brookline (or Tsunami right behind it) or out to Ginza in Chestnut Hill (people still fly up from NYC to go here).

Nothing like their vanilla ice cream and hot fudge. The only one that beat that was the old Baileys Ice Cream and Candies. Hot fudge was like molten pudding.

My favorite place for beer, steamers, music and a good time is The Barking Crab in the Seaport District.  It isn't the best food but the atmosphere more than makes up for it.

I love most of the places mentioned. I've enjoyed Todd English's Kingfish Hall in Fanueil Hall very much. Pricey, but imaginative, very good seafood.

I have been there a few times in the past few years, and it has become a tourist destination, and the food is not as good as the smaller non-tourist places.
