If you got a regular reservation and not a dayuse one, hotels will usually let you check in early if they have a clean room available, no explanation needed.
Right before COVID I was back in Boston for a few work trips and the Intercontinental, Nine Zero, Westin Copley, and Hilton Back Bay all let me check in early same-day. YMMV and it probably depends on the rest of their bookings, but I've just said my flight arrived early and they gave me a room. I tip but I don't think it's necessary.
