....and I have a large vehicle so I need 6' 8" of clearance in a garage.  If you are worried about an extra $30-40, you may need to find a new hobby.  Seriously, the only ways around it are street parking, but alot of meters have 2 hour minimums from 8AM-6PM I believe or if you have extra time, take the T in from Alewife, Quincy or Newton (Parking $5-7 then $4-6 roundtrip on the T.)  The best you will ever do is to street park in certain locations very early (before 8AM) or late in the day (after 6PM), then it possibly could be free.  When I first met my ATF, I would street park usually around 6AM and was out of there by 9AM, it was ok and free.  the metermaids don't usually come around until 9-10AM.

Just out of curiosity, what is the general consensus of having to pay an extra $30 for parking at most of the locations in town?

I really wasn't expecting it to be as high as it was at one place.  I had a three hour date by the time it was all said and done i was out another $40 for parking.  I became so used to seeing ladies within the 128 belt where the parking is minimal if not free.  That when I was hit with the parking it killed it for me.  Just wanted to know the thoughts from the rest of the hobbyist in here.  Thanks

Honestly, that does stink, but I consider that a part of the cost of hobbying in the city.

Of course, if you can find a legal spot on the street, then you're better off, but honestly, I'd rather be in a parking garage.

Usually I don't pay more than $25, but that's because I don't go for more than 2 hours in the evening anyway.

You are going to deal with the same problem in most larger cities. Plan on paying a full day rate after two to three hours at any garage in Boston. In some areas there is validation available in others you can often find a meter later in the day (two hour limit).  The burbs are of course an option but if you want to see a particular lady you may have no choice.  In all honesty I have much more serious issues with getting to in calls along 128/95 during rush hour than I have with parking in Boston.

Again, if you are flexible about who you want to see you can choose your dates by location. If you have a particular lady in mind it is all part of the cost of the date...

The parking fee was not the issue for me, it was fitting my rather large vehicle in a garage. Also, I enjoy morning appts so traffic was an issue as I too was coming from the 128 area. The best solution I found was taking the T or commuter rail. Paking in those lots is typ around $5 and traffic issues are non existant.

Hmmm - two mongers mentioning they have overly large vehicles...

I wonder if as a group we are all compensating for something...

Hehe - just kidding guys. No offense meant. But it would make an interesting Poll question for the front page.

...but when you are in a rush to get to your favorite lady or lady du jour and the clearance requirement for the closest garage is 6' 3" and you need 6' 8" it limits your options and causes stress. Since I don't mind walking, I know where most of the high ceiling garages are and just plan accordingly.  ;-)

Why aren't you dudes taking the T and saving the environment from the likes of us mongers wasting gas to go get laid?

But seriously, for those of us lucky enough to work in town, there's nothing quite like scooting out of the office and taking a short walk for a little matinee action on a dull weekday.

By the way, if you paid $30 you got off lucky.  Most places now are $34 or higher once you exceed 2 hours.

I have to admit the best all around date I have had was someone that only visits Boston. It was such a hassle with traffic in/out of town and the high parking fees I have not gone back into town to see a lady since. I just stick with the NW burbs.

You can sometimes find on-street parking, but I always wonder about that for multiple reasons:

1) What if someone you know sees your car
2) What happens if you get a ticket, or even worse get towed.
3) What about the car being broken into.

Since I work and live in the suburbs, I rarely venture into the city since it would take me a long just to drive in, and find parking, etc.

It is the same as a restaurant in the city.  By the time you add in parking, and trying to find parking, the enjoyment of a good meal is lessened because of those issues.
