Not only does it reveal that many people are being victemized (I give it credit for mentioning non-sex slavery such as nail and hair salons.), but it seeks to empower the idiocy of lumping all sex work together in a religious crusade to stamp out all demand for sex other than through civie insitutions.
This is not the place to give a point by point analysis of why this will fail, but to me it is obvious that this crusade will make matters much worse both for the people held in bondage, and sexual freedoms that we cherish and need (though only honored in the breech, I'm afraid.)

If you do talk to most of these young ladies be they grad students, small biz owners, or young women with no other way to make good money for themselves or their child... that they can see....
There are issuses often... Family, personal, etc... But the ones working for the solid agencies or as established independents would seem to have a firm grasp on what they are doing and why. And whatever negatives may have played into the choice they have seemed to accepted as a part of their lives and are hoping for little regret of this choice in the future. I think this is more the case than some would want to believe because the idea that a daughter or girlfriend or sister or even mother could have made or will make a similar choice is tough to swallow for most patrons.
But as far as those forced or lured in.... Where depression, violence, and drugs play a big role and/ or an extreme lack of self worth as the open door toward making the choice... Is troublesome.
How do you tease the 2 apart... As a hypothetical choice for prevention of the darker side of the adult industry?
I have no idea. But it is safe to say this was the dream of few to make money this way... But equally true is many are doing it with their eyes wide open with some disappointment but not enough to stop. Others who have been lured, forced, or held to this type of work... I hope for their safety and that they find a way out. Those in the former state of being I hope that they have few regrets and negative effects in their future life if and when they choose to move on...
In part because they are someone's daughter, sister, mother, and are loved by someone who is worried about them. So try to treat them all with respect.
I'd hope (and perhaps this is naive) that we'd all treat all other people with dignity and respect regardless of what their role in society may be (sister, mother, etc), who they are, or where they come from. I realize you are trying to make it more personal but really there is no excuse for treating people badly when they have done nothing wrong.
I agree... It is the stories that I have heard that led to that line of thinking. It seems that some take the desire to escape or have fun too far at times and really do make people like pieces of meat... Because of the choice they made to work in the industry.
There will always be some that mistreat others be they a bartender, nurse, or industry worker... But given the intimacy of certain professions... those cuts run deeper. It would be nice if people tried to be nicer in general and willing to listen sometimes even for a few minutes. May sound silly but think it is fair to suggest.
Frankly I think human trafficking should be a capital offense. That being said, this issue tends to get rolled up into the issue of prostitution which is really completely separate. Often times you'll hear people say that prostitution is horrible because it leads to human trafficking, dug abuse, etc. Of course these arguments are completely backwards. People who engage in human trafficking (what a stupid euphemism) force people to do things they would not want to do because it is lucrative and it's lucrative because it's illegal. Now obviously some of the things described in this article will never be acceptable and there will always be a "market" for them but let's not throw out the baby with bathwater. If anything, decriminalizing prostitution would help some people in this situation because they might believe they could go to the authorities and get help. Using human trafficking as a reason to crackdown on prostitution is the moral equivalent of censoring adult speech because we need to "think of the children!".
Not all ladies are in slavery situations, supporting a larger, darker criminal conspiracy, just as not all pot smokers are supporting domestic terrorism in Mexico and the U.S. - however, the hysteria generated by LE and the press causes oft-unjustified pigeonholing. Slavery and syndicate drug distribution are both real dangers - it sucks that the general populace cannot make the distinction between these criminal acts and what we do here.
I completely agree with your comment on pigeon holing moultoncadet. For indy ladies who make thier own choices and enjoy providing companionship, it's a shame that such assumptions are made by the general population. Peace and Love xoxox Aimie
