Legal Prostitution In MA? Bill Gains Steam
A new bill would not legalize illicit sex trade, but decriminalize prostitution for the prostitutes and put the focus on buyers and pimps.

There is plenty of data showing that this approach has the unintended consequence of bringing the sex trade further underground, making it more dangerous for providers. Clients who may steer clear from the hobbie because of these laws tend to be the easy, non-problematic ones, basically the ones that have more to loose, leaving an environment where the clientele who is not intimidated by these policies have a different profile, more transgressive, causing a more dangerous environment for sex workers. It's all politics; it looks good in paper for neighborhood associations, city councils and for the rescue industry. Of course, providers should not be arrested the way they are now (that is flat out despicable), but targeting the client backfires and creates more danger for the providers, so misses the target. Read Melissa Gira Grant's opinion on this topic (google her Vice interview or read her book, very interesting) , or from Amnesty International, which advocates for full decriminalization if the goal is to provide a safer environment for all. So, a this is not a step forward.
Honorable Gentlemen will increasingly not want to give personal info and will tend to choose only established, well reviewed girls. Business may go down all around and some girls may lower screening standards, especially those who need business the most. This will be like a free pass to the thieves and abusers who are always in the mix.
I recall reading an article about the reduction of rape and violent crime against women during the time that Rhode Island had inadvertently made prostitution legal in the last decade.
Seems to me like the industry breaks down into two segments - The woman who are empowered and in control of themselves and enter this business willfully, and those who get pulled into it against their will by predators.
I Wish the people who come up with these ideas for legislation would get a grasp of that reality, and craft a piece of legislation that acknowledges both dynamics.
Now THAT would be something!
