We are often complaining about the crisis and our personal dissatisfaction with life, but what exactly are we complaining about?
We have food, we have shelter, cars, a beautiful country...
Sure, things used to be better.
But it could be worse too!
I am asking that you just stop and look at those people and share a little bit of what you have to help them rebuild their lives...
"A kind and compassionate act is often its own reward." ~William John Bennett
(Mod, I know there is a thread about this in the first page, but it's old and it's all the way down to the bottom of the page, I hope you don't mind.)
It is very nice what our country's people are doing for Haiti and personal donations are awesome although what kind of rides me (not in a oooh ah way) is that our country is in destitute for our standards we are willing to send millions even billions of our tax dollars (I do pay taxes) to a country who has tried to claim war on us at one point. . . This type of tragedy goes back to their government and they need to make changes and get with the real world. The media is giving this more attention than the New Orleans natural disaster. The USS Carl Vincent is headed down there with all the manpower and heliocopters you could imagine. Arent we at war already?
I would still send a personal donation to this country because what they are going through is inhumane although I wonder what France or the U.K. is doing for them. . . is it always the U.S. that helps these types of situations? If so, who will help us if disaster strikes?
Again, I think it is wonderful what people are doing personally although I wish we had a say or a vote as to where our government sends our money.
I know, I will get heat for this but hey, the mod wants more disscussion . . . bring it on.
Good Post Lauren.
Brooke
I applaud your comment Brooke. I think it is right on the money.
I agree Brooke.
I just don't know how a country that has a $14 trillion deficit and $100+ trillion in outstanding liabilities continues to send money out of our country. Ww have %10 unemployement, people without healthcare and somehow we continue to be the worlds bank.
Why are we the only country that can borrow money?
Where was the foriegn aid during the aftermath of Hurrican Katrina.
I think without government involvement, US citizens would step forward and help on there own.
Fox News says that US is the only country helping.
If US people take time to research the internet and not pay attention only to US news, they would see that many countries are helping.
I am sorry if some people are offended by this.
And this is not directed towards you Brooke, I understand and respect you comments.

And many others...
The Chinese were one of the first groups to arrive in Haiti after the disaster...
And Fox says that US is helping the most if not the only one helping???
Some of these countries are really poor, man I am from Brazil, I've been to Guatemala, Venezuela, Colombia and many others and I know what poor means!!! And even being poor these countries have pledged aid.
Sorry, I am done with my rant now. whew
Fox is not claiming the US is the only country donating, I've been watching it all day. They are talking issue with the amounts other countries are doinating. The US in by for the largest donator at $100 mil. China, which is among the richest countries donated $4.4 mil.
I will clarify my stance on foriegn aide a bit. The US, which is not the poster child for financial stability right now spends way to much on foriegn.
I believe the exception should be for emergencies such has this. Human lives will be saved by quick action, and in order to do so aide on this scale is neccessary. The Haitian government has no way to raise this type of monbey quick enough to matter.
But the greater point is the US's continued large outflow of cash to foriegn contires, many of which dislike us even during non crisis times needs to end.
Even though some of the countries who are helping Haiti are in a much worse situation, because some are really poor and others because of financial crisis they are still helping.
And that's what really matters... I don't get why Fox has to bring this up every minute, I understand your point and respect it, the amount US sent is obviously a lot of money, but we are talking about lives here!
BTW your line about the Katrina Hurricane pissed me off, LOL, just kidding... okay, maybe not!

The reason China only put forth 4.4 mil. is because our 100mil belongs to them!
Lol. So, technically they donated 104.4 million dollars only they will recieve something back; interest at a high percentage as we work to pay it back.
Lastly, I would also like to send my regrets towards my comment about Katrina. I had no idea that other country's had donated aid. I like Lauren. She has a cause that she not only posted but stood by and has the info to back it up reguardless of our opinions I am impressed with the research put into her position.
