I don't know why you underestimate our fine fellow TER brethren and their investment strategies.  Great answers, especially Mr. Johnson.

I've decided to put two thirds into a self-directed IRA and have a very merry holiday with the rest.  And the airfare to Paris plummeted....

Relieved there were no 'bank deposit' puns.

 Just cleared 125% of goal and earned a $30k incentive compensation, most of it liquid.  Where oh where should I invest away from Uncle Sam's clutches?

or are you just bragging to impress the ladies?

If your a white collar working you should already know were to invest your money.

If you really want to keep it away from Uncle Sam, try some 401K.

But don't worry Uncle Sam will be get this 25% and the state will get 5.25 or more out of it.

So you can kiss over 30% of the bonus good by

Don't forget to set aside the taxes due on it.  (As for me, if you're investing short-term, cash looks pretty darn good these days.)

see a tax advisor ASAP if this is taxable income and you have other income. It could raise the amount of tax due on the other income too if it moves you into a higher tax bracket. I paid 68% on similar income 7 years ago. Ouch, that hurt. Bad tax advice!
